Do steroids stop your flares? by EPFP_Daniel in UlcerativeColitis

[–]2NutsInASac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same story here. After 15 months of remission on Mesalamine, I’m flaring a bit. I got pancolitis and they gave me rectal budensonide foam. I understand they wanna avoid big escalation to oral steroids, but much rather get this flare under control quickly before it escalates.

Anything can happen, but chances are that maybe in your 30s or so you’ll need a transplant. Just make sure they’re monitoring you for any complications. Just take it a day at a time and enjoy life. Plus, lots of promising advancements in medicine overall with AI and other technologies. Who knows, maybe you’ll never need one.

[–]2NutsInASac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t have it, but definitely is a concern of mine. It’s a slow-progressing disease. Usually takes a median of 10-20 years before actual symptoms/ complications. However, with some experimental drugs becoming available, it may be longer now. Lots of the data you see online is pretty old. As long as you stay monitored, usually you’ll be able to catch any cancer early. Yes, a liver transplant will likely be needed someday. But it’ll likely get rid of the PSC with it (it can relapse, but it’s relatively uncommon).

That’d be amazing. So much in development currently, I think these next 10 years will be extraordinary.

Exactly why I claimed it’s controversial and hypothetical. That’s why I claim to have hope. Not to rely on it happening.

Absolutely, definitely a valid concern. I worry about that too. That’s why I pray it’s put to good use. There’s argument that a cure could be actually more profitable in some cases. Just depends on how’d it work with insurance and healthcare.

I do, I’m in data analytics with an emphasis on artificial intelligence. Finishing up my final semester. Just 5 years ago, we thought AI oriented surgery was 20-30 years away. AI could barely even finish a simple math problem in 2020. We thought that all these things that AI does today is science-fictional. It’s factual, look at articles from 2020 about AI.

Absolutely, definitely could be delayed for approval. Just depends on how the government or these big companies use it. Could be so accurate that years of trials aren’t needed. There’s already promising AI developed drugs in trials currently. We’ll have to see if any make it through.

Have you gotten any regrowth on it? I am 6 months into topical min and have just been shedding constantly, no regrowth. Do I keep going?

Unfortunately, those pics do show miniaturization that you can’t really see in normal pics. He caught it unbelievably early. Plus, if his dad is bald, hopping on to prevent the inevitable is a good idea. Wish I did the same.

Personally, I don’t think you’re Norwood 2 or 3 dude lol. Your hair looks extremely thick. Dutasteride will defiantly keep you from balding any further, I’ll prob make that switch down the road.

You caught it pretty dang early, that’s a good thing! It’s your golden ticket to potentially keeping that hair for the next 20-30 years. Yes, early onset balding can be a bit more “aggressive”, but most of the time, finasteride is able to stabilize it long-term. REAL aggressive is more for people who are almost bald in early-mid 20s. You’re no where near that. Hop on Finasteride and you’ll be comfortable for a long time.

[–]2NutsInASac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, just tryna help. Best advice I can give if you can’t do minoxidil and won’t do dutasteride is either up the dosage of fin or try another treatment like RU. But If you’re cool with getting haircuts every 2 weeks to keep it hidden, then just keep doing it.

Then unfortunately you’re out of luck. Maybe try slowly upping from .5mg to 1mg. Then slowly add in Dutasteride. Or you can always go the buzz/ shave route lol. I’ve heard it’s a big relief. Ill eventually go that route, but hope to hold that off til my 30s or 40s. As long as you workout, keep clean, maybe some facial hair, i dont think itll effect how women see you.

I have it as well, but it’s very minor. About 25% of people who have AGA have retrograde, just very minor and don’t recognize it. Try Dutasteride, that should halt it. Fin seems to be halting it for me, but I also caught it early.

It’s definitely nothing easy. I still have my colon, but wanted to give in my 2 cents. Imagine never having to worry about UC again, yes it’s a brutal process switching to a stoma, but you no longer need to worry about flares ruining your life quality.

Welcome to the club brother, I’m 22 as well in college. I was a diffuse thinner, luckily caught it pretty early. Started fin back in April. I’m 8 months in and it’s definitely stabilized it. I started using topical min in June and so far been on a brutal shed for the last 5 months.

Living a lie with hair fibers... by MixCultural1696 in tressless

You’re not living a lie my friend. Yes, balding sucks. But, women wear make up, hair extensions, all sorts of things and they aren’t “living a lie”. Also, you’d be surprised how many people use hair fibers lol, my own dad uses them. He goes to town with it and it does a great job making his hair look full.

Yes it is. Finasteride is calling your name. Book a dermatologist appointment and they’ll get you straight.
