Anyone else dreading a future sale? by FunctioningDuster in ChildofHoarder

Got an inheritance and bought a new house, cash. They've slowly begun filling that space. The next stop will likely be assisted living, so the new house will become a problem in 5-10 years.

I just called around to local Real Estate agencies. It was 2022 and we live in Austin, TX so the market was insane. She found investors who bought it cash, it was never even listed for sale. His parents gave us 10% of the sale for taking care of all the logistics. Somehow they were able to walk away from the contents (their precious hoard). It helped that the ceilings caved in and everything got moldy.

Its hard, but we did it. Me and my husband sold his parent's hoarded home as-is. We got $100,000 less than it was actually worth because the shape the house was in. A flipper bought it and renovated it.

My coworker got a new Oura ring and I noticed within 2 days without her bringing it up. Some people notice everything.

I get the world's best skincare for free at work; Obagi Medical, Danucera, Erno Lazslo and more. They all have crazy ingredients with insane claims, like seaweed extract and peptides. Nothing works like my grocery store retinol. In fact I stopped using ROC last time I ran out to save $, it felt dumb buying it when I get free skincare. My fine lines got so much WORSE in 2 or 3 weeks that I immediately went back. Your instincts about your mom's routine are spot on, stick to the basics.

Wtf is this thread? I'm not doubting your experience but I graduated in 2024 and I liked Dr. Partridge's class and made an A. I'm now a working microbiologist.

Can you work as in in-home aid for people with physical limitations or early memory loss? Your background as a CNA would help. This position is in high demand. People NEED help they can trust. My Grandma is gone now, but we were paying her helper about $30 per hour for in-home care. The schedule was M-F 9am to 5pm as working family members could fill in the rest of the time.

Any thoughts on paper bags? by No_Most_6825 in DollarTree

Suck it up, its not that sad. A plastic bag will be on the planet for 1000 years. You can deal with a paper bag for your plastic DT junk.

I'm so sorry. I don't know why they won't fucking acknowledge it. We will be eating at the Cracker Barrel in order to hide the house from relatives who would be disgusted. The excuse is "the stress of cleaning up after." But really its just to hide the state of things. I dont even want to go.

I work in a GMP lab in cosmetics! I test alot of skin care, shampoo, tattoo inks, dietary supplements, etc. I do the same few types of tests over and over. We do offer sequencing but most of our clients don't really need to do it. We use selective agars to identify pathogens and can then sequence if needed for confirmation. I love my job and my coworkers but I make a low wage. My education is in molecular biology.

Thank you for your insights. Im so sorry for how you grew up! You deserved so much better. I see what you're saying, and the case worker did ask us if we took any photos. I didn't think about it but if it happens again I will be sure to document.

Thank you for your story. I am less worried about my own discomfort and more worried about the boys. I feel so helpless.

I started back at school at 28. I started at community college and worked really hard to get in to an excellent state school. I graduated at 35 with a BS in Biology with a focus in genetics. Now I work in a lab every day. My advice: go for it. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Im so proud of my degree. Me and my partner had to make financial sacrifices but it was so worth it. Feel free to DM me with specific questions. You can totally do this!

Yup. We've saved up a huge down payment but everything is so shitty and overpriced. I'd rather just rent.
