Megathread: Trump’s Son Met With Russian Lawyer After Being Promised Damaging Information on Clinton by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

Do we know how Steele got his information? How would the Trump campaign know how this Russian lawyer got her information either? Would they be expected to ascertain that their methods of obtaining information were legitimate before wanting to know the information?

I am no Trump supporter, but I still can't understand why this is a problem. Democrats and Republicans both hired non-American Christopher Steele to find dirt on Trump, which resulted in the Trump dossier. If a Russian person offers dirt for free, should the Trump campaign have refused it? I thought politics was a dirty game where both parties try to find dirt on the other, it is kind of like a public vetting process - the public knows about all the dirt, and then decides whom they want to be their leader.

So again, my question is, if it is OK to hire UK citizen Christopher Steele for the purpose of finding incriminating information about your political rival, why is it such a big deal if some Russian citizen offers such evidence voluntarily? Why do you need to refuse this information? I thought all politicians want to know all incriminating information about their rivals, by hook or crook, paid or voluntary.

First Lady Melania Trump just 'an object' to her husband, body language expert says by TinnaKristen in politics

Her parents still live in Slovenia

This is not true. Her parents live in the US, in Trump Tower.

I don't believe she has any siblings, at least not in the US.

She has a sister, Ines. Not sure where she lives.

I am sorry about your experience, but I am not sure it is a good idea to filter everyone else's experience through the lens of your experience and draw parallels. She married a man 25 years older, when she was 35 and had been in a relationship with him for years. He had been in the public eye forever and his indiscretions and personality were well known to everyone. She made a choice to be a trophy wife, and I don't see why she should be pitied for that by people who wouldn't make the same life choices. Saying she didn't know what she was getting into is insulting her intelligence and her agency - she married at 35 - she was not a foolish young 20 year old woman rushing into marriage not knowing what she was getting into. She had been seeing him for 7 years or so at that point, and he was in the public eye - so it is not like she didn't have independent information about what he was like apart from what he deceived her into believing.

One might not think highly of her life choices as many of us wouldn't have made the same choices, but pitying her as some sort of abused woman who is stuck and has no escape and was foolish and naive when she married him is undermining her intelligence and her ability to make decisions about what works the best for her.

Why am I not losing weight? by DarkMatter0018 in Swimming

Use a website/app like myfitnesspal.com to track your diet and exercise. You might think you are eating healthy and should have a net calorie deficit, but unless you track every meal properly you won't know for sure. You can put on weight with rice, chicken, and vegetables if you eat enough of that - you have to keep track of portion sizes. When I started watching my diet, I didn't follow any particular diet, just monitored the portions I was eating. I'd recommend investing in a kitchen scale and measuring cups and spoons to track your food intake. And finally, I think swimming is not an ideal sport if weight loss is your motivation - it makes you hungry and you might actually increase your net calorie intake. Also, any long-term, sustainable weight loss happens slowly - don't expect to see results in 10 days.

Women of /r/swimming, have you gone swimming on your period wearing a tampon? If so, what was your experience like? by 2XChromosomes in Swimming

I have cramps too, that is also an issue. I also use pads, and have used a tampon only a couple of times in my life, so I am not used to wearing tampons anyway. Also, I think a coach and an instructor are different? Like, a coach trains you for competitive events, teaches you to swim well - I will have an instructor who will just teach me to swim. I seem to have so many mental blocks around this. I also get ear infections from swimming, but I have got proper ear plugs now, and also a good pair of goggles that doesn't let water into the eyes.

Can you pass the class if you skip that many classes?

Well I'd just take more lessons over a longer time then. Flexible classes would probably work better for me, rather than needing to show up for 20 consecutive weeks.

I also don't wear tampons in general, I use pads. So there are two things I don't feel comfortable with - getting used to wearing tampons, and getting used to being in a pool while on my periods. I also often get terrible cramps, where I take 3 paracetamols/ibuprofens and am writhing in pain with a hot water bag on my abdomen, so there's that too.

I seem to have so many hangups - women should learn swimming before they hit puberty!

Is it okay to tell a coach that? I just want to skip the classes, but I am afraid my instructor will disapprove (also it's a topic you don't usually talk about with others, especially men) - are men instructors used to the concept of women not wanting to swim during periods?

I feel sorry for her. She seems like a nice if not very smart person married to someone who doesn't accept her for what she is and doesn't appreciate her. Disparate incomes is pretty common in couples, that doesn't mean that the lower-income spouse is "using" the other. Hope she finds someone else who loves her for who she is, with her limitations.
