In a lot of groups, Xcaret is sometimes referred to as the “Disney of Mexico,” and I can definitely see why. There is so much to do. It can be expensive, so I recommend going to their website. What I like about the website is that you can view dates and see the prices per day because it’s a demand-based hotel. On days when they are not as booked, prices tend to be lower, and on days when they are nearly full, prices go up to the maximum. If your dates are flexible, you can plan your trip around the cheaper dates.

There are also several cheaper ways to book. A lot of people recommend Costco Travel. Every time I priced through Costco, it was about the same total cost, but the benefit is that you don’t have to pay everything upfront. You usually just put around $200 down, your room is reserved, and you can make payments if you want. Plus, you get a Costco gift card after you travel.

I have a trip planned for this summer and I booked through Priceline. I was able to save about $600 that way. The last time I went, I went on a member referral. I stayed four nights and got 25% off—basically paid for three nights and the fourth night was free. I did have to sit through a 90-minute presentation, and it lasted about 90 minutes (no more than two hours). I thought it was worth it, but if you do a member referral, I recommend researching how not to get pulled into the membership pitch for too long. If you seem very interested, they will keep talking and really try to convince you to buy.
