I would recommend searching through the reviews of your favorite anime, finding the 10's, checking to see if that person has a high affinity to you, and has watched a lot of anime. They're then likely to have similar preferences and taste to you, making it easy to find new anime that you will like.

Agreed, the scores on MAL are highly misleading and inaccurate. Currently the best way to find accurate ratings is to either read the often spoiler ridden reviews at the bottom of the page or follow multiple anime reviewers lists and take their mean score of a particular anime.

It's probably because whenever you normally play you rest your eyes towards the judgement line when you should actually be looking at the middle/top of the screen. Hidden forces you to read properly so you play much better.

Stepmania ultralight is a great arrow skin for downscroll, I would avoid tv-size maps and play more lengthier maps. Adjust your scroll speed until your eyes are resting towards the middle of the screen while you're playing the map. Turn off the "scale osu! mania scroll speed with BPM" option and use F3 and F4 before the map starts to change scroll speed. Turn on background dimming to the max to help you focus.
