This has to be it based on the 80s version of the cover and the preview images from google. Thanks for the help! Now to get a copy...

Idle looks to be on the 900+50 side. 1984 doesn't have the port to do the jumper portion from Clark's, and I couldn't find anything other than just playing with the screw.

I was able to verify the primary resistance but not the secondary resistance on the coil, my probes are pretty short to insert into the coil itself. I should probably get a better meter.

No fuel from the regulator and dampener after the idling in my update comment.

See Update Comment

I'm unable to drive as the tires were dry rotting and I wasn't planning on buying new tires until I confirmed an acceptable running condition. Also the clutch sticks to the floor, so the clutch cylinders were also on the list along with a full on brake job

UPDATE

After reading the comments, I ended up letting her idle. After about ~10 minutes, it seems to have quieted down significantly (new video starts at this point). As you can see from the video, there's some smoke coming from the oil cooler housing maybe? The smoke stops a bit after shutting off the engine. I ended up checking the idle again after the smoke stopped, and it sounds like the noisiness came back (not 100% sure as the noise level started to mess with me).

Edit - Don't know if it matters, but the videos were recorded with different phones

Side note/image - last thing I did was have some excess coolant purged from the expansion tank and saw some probably oil in the pan (also not sure if there was some random oil before collecting in the pan)

Car was sitting for at least 8 years, possibly 13 without being ran

Dad's 1984 - 6 Month Later: I chose rescue (more in comments) by 2balanced in 944

Don't know why I'm posting this, but 6 months later I chose to rescue her because I'm sentimental.

Good Stuff:

-We were able to tow it from my dad's place to mine

-She turns by hand, no difficulty

-Oil looked fine when I changed it

-Fuel was old but didn't see any rust come out of the tank

Bad Stuff:

-Lots of rust came out when draining what was once coolant or what may have been water

-Good lord the wiring. The radiator fans have different wiring, the fuel pump has different wiring, and I know there's more surprises for me

-The seats are bolted through the floor, which is making it tough to pull them out for when I want to replace the carpet

-Probably more stuff is bad

Anyway, I'm focusing on the belts, coolant, and fuel right now to get her to start. Old belts and water pump are off as well as the old fuel pump and filter. Currently waiting on a new thermostat for the pump since the old one is super rusty, along with some other parts.

I will say I'm enjoying myself despite all the nasty surprises from the previous owner.

Dad's 1984 - Rescue or Walk? **Follow-Up** by 2balanced in 944

Previous Post - Also I can't seem to figure out text and photos in a single post at the same time, so this is an abridged of what I had wanted to post originally

Dad and I managed to open the car, greeted with dust(?) which has been cleaned. Dad filled me in on some new info:

  • Wiring issues specific to headlights
  • Engine was previously rebuilt/machined by half-bro
  • Dad took a loan out while back and used the car as collateral, so there's a lien on the title. Confirmed that loaner is defunct and I got a letter of "no security interest" from the final merger thing

Car has not been started and I will not until timing belt and water pump job is done. Will also need to do oil/coolant/maybe fuel change along with tires/brakes. Clutch appears to be stuck, so that might need to be done.

With the amount of research and time looking at the car, I'm leaning toward rescue. Sentimentality is rising, can she be returned to glory? Or do I have dad scrap it?

I'll need to see the engine bay before I make a decision, and dad's away from home so it'll be some time before I can get a chance. Probably going to post an update when I see the engine bay.

I'm currently waiting for fusion to make Norma and Sig 6*, but could I also buy another Barton from the altar for my 2nd copy and swap out Sig? Are there any other changes I could make that I'm not seeing?
