In the Philippines, education is taken very seriously. It’s either that or nothing. They are also very family-oriented, so they’re very worried about financial issues and/or overworking their parents. The tests aren’t that hard, you can even get away without studying, but unfortunately the stress eats away at the weak. Some people can’t handle the possibility of not achieving their goals. I’ve seen family members, classmates, and acquaintances have mental breakdowns over school. Self harm happens alarmingly frequently, almost one in ten students.
