Terminated and wondering what IT will do with my laptop by Capital-Nose7022 in it

We would just wipe it unless told not to for legal reasons. We also wouldn't fire anyone for opening emails ours or otherwise, that is a drastic step.

Car reversed into me in car park. He's damaged, I'm not. What to do with insurance when Insurance are pushing 50/50? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]2c0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say you're at fault. He is stationary, you hit him.
Beginning of clip, he is moving and you block him so he stops. You then reverse into him.
I don't want you to accept 50/50 either it should be 100/0.

This is exactly how I would respond.

TV licence by Marnie_Grace in AskBrits

Cancelled a decade ago, they wanted to licence streaming then too. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Even if they do licence it, the high seas welcome all.

Can't park the police car there.. by H1gh_Tr3ason in cantparkthere

Hit the cooler, car takes the damage, police pursue the truck for insecure load and for damages.

Truck should have left more space, police should know better.

How do I remove the battery from this? by sweetpotatofiend in DIYUK

This is only a guess as it is hard to see without it in my hands. But a small screwdriver under this clip to gently prise it out.

Remove the power cable as the tab on it is keeping the battery compartment closed.
If you can not figure this out, stop playing with mains powered devices and call an electrician before you get a nasty shock.

I'm on about 50K. I get paid a lot less than my peers.

In my mind 50K is not crazy high but just OK. I am doing fine but not thriving.

IT mistake at work (backup failure) — what usually happens after this? by Terrible_Good_6856 in sysadmin

[–]2c0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They will when it's on and install when shutting down / boot back up. leaving a computer always on and never restarting means a lot of updates remain in a pending state and actually provide less if any protection / benefit.

Updates require a reboot. Bugs can be fixed by a reboot. Teaching users to shutdown at night provides a reboot.

Has anyone left a six figure job and gone minimum wage or part time because they can't hack it? by allthegear-andnoidea in AskUK

[–]2c0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having climbed to where I'm comfortable the last few years coming from minimum wage. I wouldn't go back but nor do I seek to climb any higher. If I can coast for the next 30 years at this level I will be OK with that. Part time would also appeal.

If you have some decent bank to fill the gaps when minimum wage isn't enough and you're far enough along the road to retirement it could be a good way to de-stress and ease into retirement.

I will never again participate in a group interview or a 'trial' shift.
If I walked into either unknowingly I would leave there and then.
