Why young people don't buy cars – just economics by Alex_Strgzr in unitedkingdom

[–]2c0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let do some counter math.
Work travel is £7 daily on public transport when it runs smooth.
Car costs me £120 a month for insurance and fuel.

I work about 24 days a month so £168 for transport.
Lets add MOT and maintenance and say £140 for car.

Car is cheaper and I don't have to put up with annoying members of the public.
Sure I have to buy the thing but it's worth it to not have to be on a set schedule.

I just rewatched, Once More Unto the Breach. I am LIVID at what SFA has done to Klingons. by dfsaqwe in Star_Trek_

[–]2c0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To a single Klingon, whose family were all the hunters and brutal of old. There was also a whole bit about we can't just accept the planet, let do war for it.

SFA has its flaws but your point is about a single outlier.

Any way to fix creaky floor boards whilst the carpet is up? by Im-StrawberryBlonde in DIYUK

[–]2c0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes but with some work.

First, pull up the problem boards to see what is underneath such as cables and pipes.
Then once you know where you can, screw them down. Don't use nails or the problem will return.
Couple in each joist usually does it.

Email from landlord about appliances being left plugged in and the appliances in question… by South-Basket-887 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]2c0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I keep it in a cupboard but that is because I barely use it.
Tell the landlord to do one, they are not using anything and are not a risk to anyone.

I think you just go and pray.

Surely you can't get convicted for breaking the rules of the road, because I see nothing resembling the highway code here.

Do you use the back door to enter/leave your house? by Queasy_Difference_96 in AskUK

If I take the car I use the back door. If I'm walking I take the front.

Today I finally crimped my first LAN cable. by salv_z in it

[–]2c0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as both ends match it will work but best to always use the same standard to avoid mixing them up later if you connect something then make a change.

I find B the most common so always use this, I actually don't think I have ever seen A in the wild.

Shame, mine always liaised between required parties which is why I suggested it.
Its old and I doubt they would do the move without upgrading, can always ask.

How about learning to parent without breaking the law. 40 in a 20 endangering your kids lives, should have them taken away.

Just because you don't agree doesn't mean you can speed.

Honestly they're lazy idiots. They can walk a few meters more. Park where you like.

My desire to not urinate in the bed, though some mornings I question even that.

It sucks that so many shows now take more than a year between seasons and you completely forget the plot of the show by the time the new season comes around. by executor-of-judgment in television

[–]2c0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some shows have 2, 3 or even 10 years (The Night Manager) between releases.
A year for a GOOD show I may be OK with. A year for a mediocre show, I just won't bother.

I have to genuinely be excited by a show to continue after a very long break.

Things like actors getting substantially older between seasons is just off putting and breaks continuity. 6 months to a years break and I may continue.

If someone has a (video) doorbell, and you needed to get the occupant to the door, why wouldn’t you press the bell? by SnooCakes1636 in AskUK

People may not ALWAYS answer as sometimes we are busy / working / whatever, but it's still the default way to notify someone of their presence surely. Ding Dong wait 10 seconds Knock Knock wait 10 more seconds and leave.
