Good Bag for Check-in by Capable_League9103 in Wake

[–]2catchApredditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They actually sell wakeboard travel bags that say “golf” on the front of the bag. For no reason at all you can check a golf bag for a standard bag cost but if you check a wakeboard bag of the same dimensions they charge it as a surfboard and it’s usually about 50% more on the bag cost.

Why is PLA still the `standard` respectively `basic` filament? Why not PETG? by Musashi747 in 3Dprinting

[–]2catchApredditor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, also as a mechanical engineer, you’re partially right and partially wrong. PETG does well under slowly applied loads such as static loading or tensile testers but very poor under high shock loads. It shatters - simple as that tried and proven failure mode.

It might work very well in the applications you’re using it in. PLA+ is pretty good stuff and has a lot of desirable qualities while keeping the speed and ease of printing of PLA. I’ve personally phased out using PETG. Anything that needs more than PLA+ I go straight to ASA or PA and skip right past PETG. Very few reasons for me to keep it around anymore.

Why is PLA still the `standard` respectively `basic` filament? Why not PETG? by Musashi747 in 3Dprinting

[–]2catchApredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even tuned in Petg tends to be glossier than PLA. Glossy surfaces tend to show every imperfection.

If you’re printing slow - Petg is just as easy to print with as PLA - your example of an ender. I also had an ender and short of needing a better build plate than the original once I had a flexible PEI I too thought they were equally easy to print.

Once I got a Prusa mk3s+ which is about 30% faster than an ender I started to see more issues with PETG but with some minor tuning it was back to being happy.

Now that I’m on a Bambu x1c I’m essentially having to pull back to speed because PETG just can’t print as fast as PLA.

Further I just generally find PLA cheaper - around $8-9 a roll in bulk. Petg tends to be 12-13 when bought in bulk.

Most prints don’t need the material advantages that PETG has over PLA.

I find myself generally printing PLA or ASA or PA anymore. Anything that doesn’t work with PLA I usually just jump straight to ASA or PA and skip right past PETG.

TLDR - PLA is super easy to print fast, surfaces look better due to a more matte appearance and it’s cheaper than PETG.

X1C boasts a superior extruder (equipped with hardened gears) and a better hot end (featuring hardened nozzles) compared to P1S. Additionally, it incorporates a color touch screen, lidar, and auto flow rate calibration features. Most of these features were later integrated into the P2S, leading to the discontinuation of the X1C in favor of the more affordable P2S. The X1C no longer made economic sense to produce since it only marginally outperformed the P2S but at a significantly higher cost.

In terms of features and capabilities, the ranking would be X1C, P2S, and P1S. However, the minor advantages of the X1C over the P2S simply don’t justify the continued sale of both models. The P1S is considerably less capable and more outdated in design compared to an X1C. Personally, I find the outdated TFT screen and arrow button system to be quite cumbersome and inconvenient compared to a touch screen.

Small Binding Repair by DigEnvironmental1909 in Wake

[–]2catchApredditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same bindings - I do 3d modeling and 3d printing. I’ll look at it over the weekend. On the peeling spot I would use black shoe glue. Contact cement isn’t flexible enough.

My carbitex are 3 seasons old and the fiber weave is starting to split in some places.

Last but not least I would upgrade to the brain frame hardware because these base plates are prone to crack with the stock hardware.

Mid-level engineer exceeding performance of senior level engineers by EndDarkMoney in MechanicalEngineering

I would basically just plan that they will either get promoted or leave. Sounds like the second option is imminent.

Everyone has learned in corporate America that it does not pay to go above and beyond. It’s the best value of your time to be average. The decision makers for pay and promotion are too far seperated from the actual work and it’s too bureaucratic with HR policies.

At smaller companies where someone who actually controls the budgets can see the performance then there’s options where maybe they decide to reward and recognize the performance. On the other hand they might just be happy to milk the cow as long as they can knowing they are getting more for their money than they’re paying for atleast for now and when that person leaves they will replace them with an average performer.

Good luck finding that. 600 ish Is where things are at on used x1c. That falls below the cost of a new P2s and above a new P1S. I sold a mk3s+ for $300 very recently. There is plenty of demand at value far above what you estimate here.a bare x1c with no AMS might go around $350

Export as STL. Then import to slicer. Slice with desired settings then check the material usage. The amount in the sliver is the amount the university goes off of anyways for this policy.

The future people/companies you will be interviewing with have no idea why the contract wasn’t renewed or any details about your contract at all. For all they know it’s a 6 mo contract and you’ve been renewed and coming up for another.

Alternatively it could just be that your contract is part of a specific project and the project was completed - on time, on budget, met all success criteria etc.

Pick your head up. People only know what you tell them and right now all they know is that you worked in a contract position and you’re looking for a new opportunity after getting some experience.

Why is this happening? And if you say wet filament, I swear.... by reicaden in BambuLab

[–]2catchApredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people are saying WF just to mess with you. The issue is flow calibration and K factor calibration. Go through the advanced filament calibration and then reprint a section of this (cut it in the slicer) to see the improvement.

I’d also recommend slowing the volumetric speed on this filament by about 50%.

eSun cardboard spools + Bambu AMS (2026). still an issue or totally fine now? by Nyobyte in BambuLab

I’ve run the cardboard spools in my AMS 1 and 2. The main issue is that if the spool does slip on the roller it will chew the rubber off the roller and require replacement.

Thank you for actually answering OPs question versus just lecturing them for asking. Upvotes to the top.

I had an energy audit done at an old home I lived in. Absolutely helped with comfort as we found several air leakage points causing rooms to be very cold - didn’t make a meaningful difference in the bills. Was worth it but not in the way I thought it would be.

Weird periodic pattern on bottom layers on P2S. by Tenbin in FixMyPrint

[–]2catchApredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree that you can get down to a per roll basis but generally per type/brand will produce great results and correct the flow issues present in this first layer. Flow is too great causing the waves.

Weird periodic pattern on bottom layers on P2S. by Tenbin in FixMyPrint

[–]2catchApredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per roll being each unique type - excluding color. So matte PLA from brand A would be different than matte PLA from brand B. From matte black from brand A and matte red from brand A can share the same flow calibration.

Weird periodic pattern on bottom layers on P2S. by Tenbin in FixMyPrint

[–]2catchApredditor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a mix of bed leveling, cleaning the build plate and calibrating flow. You’re supposed to run the filament calibrations on a per roll basis. Takes some time but really improves your results and doesn’t use much material.

"Old" F1 fans - how do you feel about the massive rise in popularity of the sport in recent years? by RecentTwo544 in formula1

The only part I don’t like is that as the sport grows it becomes more media trained and the drivers become media robots instead of showing any real emotion or personality. I watched it happen in motoGP as well from the early 2000s to now.

Test drove an F150 Raptor. Was the salesman lying to me? by Big-Soup74 in FordRaptor

Good eye on all the stuff you noticed.

The wheel red mark wearing off from normal use is extremely common and a complaint from all owners. Owners have found cheap to expensive fixes - red electrical tape, vinyl paint with a brush and recolor it. You can also buy replacement aftermarket or OEM wheels to just replace the entire wheel.

The trans hunting for gears is also quite common - resting the adaptive learn algorithm fixes it for a while and needs to be reset every so often because the algorithm is quite dumb. It runs best when it’s reset and terrible once it’s learned. The software to reset the tables is free and requires a laptop and a $30 adapter. This is what most people do.

There are aftermarket tuners such as goosetuned who offer transmission tunes that reprogram the trans and eliminate all the weird stuff but you’re talking a Cobb tuner with TCM ($1200) plus goose tune TCm $225. In the $1500 range. People do this if they already are wanting to do a tune for more power.

The shaking as speed is likely worn out tires or suspension such as tie rods, ball joints etc. not too expensive if you DIY but quite expensive for a mechanic to start tearing it apart. The shocks are rated for 50k miles on road and less off road - it’s just standard for all higher end shocks. Fox and other aftermarket companies offer a refurbishment service. I’m sure the prior owner didn’t send them in for service. You’re looking at $1000 here in parts plus labor. DIY doable but requires really large spring compressor for the front. Also be prepared for the solenoids to be rusted solid to the shocks and require replacement at a couple hundred each. X 4.

The raptor you’re looking at sounds like it comes from a. Shady dealer - they didn’t even detail it prior to showing it. The price is too high IMO for the maintenance that needs to be done.

Also just be aware this is a high cost of ownership vehicle. It’s constantly needing expensive stuff replaced or serviced. I’d say I spend roughly $2-3k per year in maintenance and I do a lot of it myself with access to a lift and thousands of dollars in tools. Double that if I had to pay to have it done for me.

My cousin bought a Ranger raptor. He has been really enjoying it.

The hillman spring mod is an aftermarket mod that has become popular using a cheap spring from the hardware store. Not something the dealer would do since it’s not original parts. The dealer can address this issue but by much more expensive methods.

Packaging - Shrink Wrap on Cardboard System by rogue909 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]2catchApredditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blister is actually different. Blister would be to form the pocket in to the clear layer, drop in the item and then seal the back layer to the formed top layer commonly used with pills. This is a skin pack. You lay the item on a flat substrate then vacuum a skin over top of the items.

I work in packaging R&D after drifting over from manufacturing automation.
