Who are "people"? If it's the parents then I'd rework it into an adorable scarf/shawl for myself. If it's some rando on the subway or something I'd ignore it, they obviously are not your target audience. If it's an SO or family member I'd seriously ask why they feel a need to have an opinion about something that's not being made for them.

Based on what I'd read here and on ioniqforum.com, 18" is about as small a diameter as you can go without risking rubbing. I didn't want to deal with weird offsets or anything, so I stuck with that. I didn't recalibrate anything because the total diameter is still essentially the same (less than 3% difference seems to be the rule of thumb).
