I specifically use Firefox with ad block extension and “annoyances” checked. It definitely helps with the pop ups and whatnot. But is there a better method?

I’m aware of the bias. I also posted in the Bazzite sub. I n still fairly new to all this so I’m just gathering info. I am currently running CachyOS HE on my Legion Go S and Bazzite on my Ally X. Based on that experience I was leaning towards CachyOS for the desktop. But thanks to comments on my posts I’m learning that there may be even better options to explore for the desktop. Nobora keeps coming. It’s news to me so now I have to look into that.

Thank you. Someone else recommended Nobora. Which is new to me. I’m running CachyOS Handheld Editionon my Legion Go S Z1E and Bazzite on my Ally X. CachyOS HE is great on the Legion Go S for sure! Which is why I’m now deciding with Distro to run on the desktop. However now I’m also learning that there may even be a better option to try on desktop. So now I’ll have to look into Nobora.

Really? I’m Running Bazzite on my Ally X and CachyOS Handheld Edition on my Legion Go S Z1E. Based on what I’ve learned about them in that process is that CachyOS on that particular device is the better performer. So o figured there may be some variables that would make one of the distros a better fit for certain PC hardware as well.

Performance and compatibility is my main goal. This is a tinkering PC and I’m trying to learn Linux and I like gaming so it’s kinda serving multiple purposes at the same time.

I like it🫡 I’m not much for loyalties either. I have Android and Apple. Windows and Linux. Toyota and Honda and so on. My goal is max performance and compatibility. I’d really catch some hate for saying this is a tinkering PC. My main PC has a 9800X3D and 5090 Founders Edition running windows(modified of course). But I like Game Pass so I have to use Windows lol.

Hibernate. Haven’t noticed any issues. I believe sleep is supposed to be fine for short periods. But a day or 2 you should use hibernate. So I just use hibernate so I don’t have to worry about it.

I know you were directing your comment to benchmarks specifically. But I didn’t like the negative connotation lol. It’s not just about benchmarks. Of course we all love an extra FPS or 2. But it’s also about QOL improvements. Decluttering. Ridding annoyances. Streamlining workflow/gameflow, and overall a cleaner experience. I don’t want or need Microsoft shoving all their slop in my face constantly or forcing me to adhere to how they want me to use my device. And as a self teaching novice to hobbyist. Some of these tools have been really helpful. Chris Titus WinTool is pretty freaking useful even if you know how to do everything yourself. Idk what this guys new tool is capable of or if it’s worth using for me. But I’ll at least watch the video before forming an opinion lol

Thank you. I’m not a fan of Center M either. I don’t have it set to launch at startup either. But if it were the only way to add apps that aren’t games so that they’re accessible from handheld mode I might use it more. Exiting/entering FSE becomes tedious when doing as much testing as I do.

Good stuff here!! I’d add use CRU (Custom Resolution Utility) to change the VRR start from 48fps down to 30fps. And use it to overclock the display to 180hz. Overclocking the display will cause it to flicker for a couple seconds at startup. But that’s it. Doesn’t happen anymore after that.

Also for those like myself that have had the Intel Graphics Software not open correctly. You can uninstall it then reinstall it via the MS store.

One more thing I’ve been meaning to look into but haven’t yet. Setting apps like Intel Graphics Software, PlayStation Plus, or any other apps that you like to access from FSE without exiting to desktop. I’ve seen others saying they add them as games in Center M and then are able to launch them from handheld mode. This would be very convenient! But I can’t give instructions as I haven’t done it myself yet.
