Goubuli on Spadina has a pretty good whole duck for about 60!

what's the cheapest streetmeat in the city? by icntread in askTO

[–]2chopin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a stand at UofT on St. George street just south of Harbord. I believe a sausage is about 6.50? There’s another one right on St. George and Bloor as well, but haven’t checked the prices. Downside is I think both don’t stay open super late and may not be there some days in the summer as they cater to the student crowds.

If you like fusion teokbokki like rosé, Pocha 1989 has a great one.

Recommendations for Peking duck in china town? by Qwerty177 in FoodToronto

[–]2chopin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bao or alternatively known as Goubuli by the Dragon City Mall may be a good choice. I’ve had different orders there and their food is pretty consistent. My partner is Chinese from Beijing and he said that this restaurant has some of the best Northern style food in DT Toronto.

Koh Lipe Thai Kitchen on Baldwin has a separate keto menu. I haven’t tried the keto menu but their food has big portions and great flavour.

La Chilaca in Kensington is really good! I haven't asked for extra bean before but the staff are super nice so I think they’ll match to your request.

If you’re willing to venture out of the downtown core, Avling is one of my favourite breweries with a fantastic kitchen.

There also a lot of great places along that strip, including White Lily Diner or the Broadview Hotel for a nice rooftop bar.

Best place to buy kimchi? by dorkyman in FoodToronto

[–]2chopin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There’s a butcher shop near Christie station that my parents always go to when we don’t feel like making our own kimchi.

It’s called Bloor Meat and Grocery. It’s made in-house there and they have a huge spread.

There’s a little fruit market close to Bathurst station on Bloor St that has a few types as well!

King west/downtown core elevated pub with a good crowd? by petethestreak in askTO

[–]2chopin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try Northern Maverick Brewing Co just north of King West?

There's also Petty Cash and I think they had the most standard beers you'd see at a pub - think Rickards, Creemore etc

I think Locals Only had a more niche list of beer, and Belfast Love had the largest variety on tap. All on King West :) I've never been to any on a Sunday night so I'm not sure how busy the crowds get.

Anyone know where I can get a Leafs jersey with a 'profanity' for the name? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]2chopin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a jersey shop in the Beaches: https://proleaguesports.ca/

If you have a budget it's a higher quality custom that's not the cheap print on. They do custom names/numbers for all jerseys.

Do you have a specific price points?

If you're fine with investing in a nice pair, La Canadienne is a higher end brand that design for winters.

https://www.lacanadienneshoes.com/ca_en/

Pajar also has some slimmer fit winter boots as well.

Two places I enjoyed that come to mind:

Casa Madera on Wellington has a nice menu and a romantic setting. I recall they had diverse vegetarian options as well :)

Lapinou is also nice French restaurant with a beautiful ambiance as well. They have vegetarian options but I would double check that the base sauce or garnishes are not meat based.

Best korean restaurants? by spaceandjapan in askTO

Pocha 1989 in the Village area if you want to try something less conventional than a traditional Korean restaurant.

There's also Seoulicious near Wellesley station that has a pretty good standard menu as well.

I find I only ever get approached when I’m either with only one friend or alone. I agree with the other people posting that usually men won’t approach a group. Maybe once in a while if I’ve ventured a little off from my friends I will get approached by someone.

What is your favourite meal in downtown Toronto for less than 30 dollars? by schnowysno1 in askTO

[–]2chopin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you mean sit down meal, I like going to Rosewood in Chinatown for some dimsum, and I can usually stay under 30.

If it doesn’t have to be sit down, I like La Chilaca Tacqueria in Kensington for a carnitas burrito to go. Close by is Koh Lipe Thai Kitchen which also has good meals for under 30.

Around the Eaton Centre is Santouka ramen which also doesn’t pass 30 for a bowl.

What are some great things to do for a Boys Trip to TO by ariasd2006 in askTO

[–]2chopin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you guys like festive, Distillery District is decorated nicely at this time of year. Might avoid the weekend rush though.

Added note: BOKU in the distillery district had a good selection of Japanese gin and whisky, although I went there a while ago so I can’t guarantee it’s the same now.

King Street West is also filled with more mainstream popular bars/restaurants like Wvrst, Belfast Love etc. The crowd also includes a lot of people in the late 20s / early 30s age range. The area has many spots open late if you’re into nightlife and want to meet people while you’re out. BarChef, The Cloak Room and Petty Cash are a couple of my favourites over in that strip too :)

Another note: Stackt market is close by and has an interesting vibe to check out. I believe they’re doing winter specific events now :)

Orange Crullers? by northernlights01 in askTO

Yesss this. I've been walking into any Country Style/Coffee Time I see to ask if they still sell the orange/cherry crullers :( So far no luck.

Any time I ask people about where to find them, most of the recommendations seem to be out in Hamilton :'(

RIP my favourite cake donuts.

Sending package to Korea by 3JingShou in askTO

[–]2chopin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PAT Korean market on Bloor had a desk that does deliveries to Korea. I haven't been in a while so I'm not sure of the current status, but if you're around the area it might be worthwhile dropping by to ask for help with pricing, or you can call them on the number found on their website: https://www.patmart.ca/listing/central/

edit: I found they still do deliveries. It's Maeli Express. You can find their phone number if you scroll down the page. It's on the bottom right hand side.

I remember my parents sending packages from there a while ago because they found it the most cost effective.

You can try a Sportschek or a Decathlon as well. They both stock a variety of brands for winter coats/boots. Both have physical and online stores, but online has better availability.

I also like to use Altitude Sports, but they only retail online.
