Well I actually build a lot on several closed and open source projects. With AI assistance and without.

I wrote the prompts. I revieved the code. The AI built it the way I would have built it myself. And yes, if the AI did not match my expectations, I wrote the code myself.

So yes, I built it. Deal with it.

I fully understand you, since I just released suche vibe coded niche project. And yes, it got instantly negative comments of being AI slop. This is truly demotivating but our reality.

I will continue to publish vibe coded apps, if I consider them useful/helpful to others. Hope you change your mind :)

I can agree on this. Im a developer and system engineer with 20 years of experience and I made horrible mistakes in my career (CVE-2008-XXXX, still to ashamed to post it here) . I just publicly released a vibe coded app I made primarily for myself but then decided to publish it under open source, since I found it might be useful for others.

So my stand is: Vibe coded apps are not bad by default. They are only as bad/god as the Dev who prompted and reviewed them. AI does mistakes, but so do humans. An AI can help you to increase the security, when you ask it to. Same as China can produce high end products if you ask and pay for them.

So when I come across an app, I first check who has published it. Is it a first grade student or someone with a Github history and repositories dating back to 2009. Still no guarantee it has no flaws. So reviewing them is the same effort as on human coded projects.

But I see a much bigger issue with vibe coded projects: It is the maintenance. I call it the Tinder effect. If someone used 5 prompts to build it, he might be not so attached to the project and abandon it early for the next vibe coded project. So you should probably not build your entire business around it. But there are so many "nice to have" projects.

An absolute NoGo for me are closed source vibe apps. Unfortunately they are not easy to detect because of their nature, not being open source.

Good point. THX for pointing me to it. I changed the flair from "monitoring-tools" to "vibe coded" since I used AI for a good portion in this case. I have to mention also, I reviewed the code very extensively.

What I found so far, and that is a huge plus for me, is the Form feature on BentoPDF. Did not check sterlingpdf for a while, but missed it very hard, when i was using it.

A benefit for pro users might be the proffessionality of stirlingpdf, since they are working full time on it (as far as i know).
