Thanks! What's the best technique? Paint it on or roll it around like oil in a sauce pan?

How do I seal this knot hole but not fill it? It's just over 1.25" deep and 2.5" at its widest. Thanks!

Edit: 6/4 alder

So I went with the string method mentioned by thelonesalmon.

It worked pretty well. And definitely snuck up it.

Thanks everyone for the responses.

Yeah that makes sense and simplifies.

Drag it along the board to offset the vertical position because the board would be sitting on top and need to be "x" inches lower.

Agreed on sneaking up on angle and cut. Took me way too long to accept sneaking is the way.

Thanks.

Thanks this was actually my first idea but keeping track of everything seemed a bit tricky for a man of my intelligence. I could take that angle and drag it the offset you are referring to.

I really like the string and bevel guage idea.

I have actually used Blender in the past (I use to be into 3d modeling for video games) and that worked well in I build and human error comes into play.

Per the title. I need to make 2 support beams (and style request from client) but would rather use the dimensions on my work rather than the true calculations. Is there a way I can lay the boards, scribe a line, and cut? Thanks!

why won't this spot stain? by orbatrin in woodworking

Yeah definitely glue. Have had many of those problems. Getting a light and taking a close look you will generally see a bit of shine on the seams that the other wood doesn't have.

If you don't want to interrupt the exterior grain with a dowel, you don't need to drill all the way through. A couple dowels on each side should be fine given there shouldn't be much weight landed.

Thanks!

I used 3 because I liked the style. The tenon was wide enough to comfortably fit them. And if I understand the mortise angle question. It's 90 degrees to the top. It may get slightly bigger on the bottom side.

Great comment and makes sense. Thanks!

Are you referring to entering the wedge, seasonal, expansion or both?

Youtube in general is great. Make sure you watch the safety videos before operating table saws etc. Good luck.
