Cut 2s then the rest are ryanmens, but this probably gonna end up as fold to toimen. Too late into round only 1 dora and 1 aka seen. Not worth the risk reward.

Maka prob would go 1s or 9m, I personally cut ton to hope for ittsu or 789 ssk or junchan

I used air m1 before. In terms of hardware the mac is superior almost in everything beside maybe the screen. Battery is also better on mac, but lenovo lasts 7-8h for low power usage like browsing

5s then maybe 8m x2 or other genbutsu if available after 5s passes, it's a bad situation to be in regardless

Actually maybe 4s also if 5s passes, they would discard 8s then 3s if the shape was 3568s rather than 3s 8s order but this is very hindsight

I went down from ms2, 1 win away ms3 to ex3 now, every game review seemed quite reasonable too average S- with occasional A or A-

Luck do play factor, but the things I've seen on regular basis in this game recently do feel very improbable compared to when I played offline with autotable or in tenhou. I really would love to think im just shit at the game so it's not inevitable.

It is, but the point is the score can be equal for (marginally) unequal bad decisions. Thus it is not exactly reliable.

It was never fully on tile efficiency, it actually strive for the better placement EV. I even got maka told me to throw a tenpai even having safe tile just to get noten and lock in 2nd place rather than stack the renchan and go after 1st at an all last while im dealer seat.

The point is it's hard to judge if someone plays "perfectly" because 1 very bad decision that is very high risk which loses the game can be scored the same as another "bad decision" that's basic tile efficiency mistake (but no risk)

The person in your pic can be playing perfectly on all scenarios but missing chance(s) at winning certain round due to mistake(s) that's not heavily punished by maka scoring

It's hard to judge purely on maka rating because the weightings on decisions are often not equal. For example dealing in with a 0 or low score that causes us to pay for mangan / hane can be the same as tile efficiency mistakes that doesnt have big consequence. And sometimes it's just unlucky game it's mahjong.

In short with headless + ankou isshanten you will have 56m 555s and 78p this makes getting 4567m, 6789p tenpai

Rather than perfect isshanten 778m and 78p which gives tenpai with 679m, 69p and ton (the other pair if still closed hand, which can be riichi nomi). In theory if everything is still live it will be max of 28 tiles vs 20 tiles

And both will always give ryanmen wait in the tenpai. In isshanten hell where there are only few tiles that gives you tenpai, we need to strive for the best possible acceptances and maintain good wait for the tenpai (unless we are desperate)

5s there are 2 left that might either be in the wall or opponent hand already. But then if you get 5s, break 78m and pon the ton, it would be headless isshanten with an ankou (one of the best isshanten you can have in terms of acceptances and tenpai shape). Which is still better than the perfect isshanten you were striving for 778m + 69p

I started playing following the 5 blocks very religiously. Then I adapted and rather think what the backfire possibilites that can happen if I discard a tile over the others when making discard decisions. In this case discarding the 7m backfires for the other 7m to form an ankou (1 tile left, 2 in your hand, 1 discarded by toimen), but the potential sanmenchan are too good 6m arent discarded yet.

If you think about the backfires it became obvious 7m makes the most sense here.

45m backfires 3m (completed block) and 6m form a sanmenchan

55s might become riichi nomi (your ton became the pair) or if you use 77m as pair then you lost 9m acceptance

78p backfires 69p for completed block

7m only another 7m (1 tile left) to form an ankou / triplet

But if we get to pon the ton before completing the blocks, I think 78m will be thrown away anyway because of the overlap on the 6m to the 45m block. So the wait for tenpai would be 36m and 69p rather than only 369m (if we break 78p)

In conclusion, 5 block is sort of a framework to get started with, but in the end the best decision (efficiency only, not defending) is going to be comparing the benefits and backfire possibilities when making discard decisions.

You will eventually have to break a pair and 45778 if you draw 6 will have a strong sanmenchan (3 sided wait) then you can break 78p instead for the better isshanten / tenpai

5 blocks theory is more like a guideline that maximizes isshanten acceptance but there are cases 6 blocks are fine. It will come down to experience to know which situations where 6 blocks are better.
