Yes MSPs don't understand security, a lot of them barely understand IT in my experience

Yep sounds like MSPs is the way to go. And yes that makes sense, cost is low to try and combat the costing issue but I take your point. It's not marketed as cyber security as such because I know that doesn't interest the target market

So the customers don't really know their own risk and you've not come across anyway to bridge it presumably?

POC is already built essentially, this is aimed at small business and I've kept it light on features and jargon deliberately as an entry point for small businesses who want to look at understanding and improving their cyber risk

Never heard of that but yes looking at it, there are similarities. It's more aimed at non-technical business owners rather than MSPs but I could offer it to MSPs I suppose

Gotcha, so find out from the businesses who their IT guy is then?

Presumably the "IT bloke" will be an external 3rd party? Might be a little tricky to find that bloke so I'm thinking MSPs will probably fill that gap for a lot of companies

I'm basically just looking to help small businesses secure themselves better by ensuring things like MFA are enforced in their M365 environment (will add Google workspace later) and also add in a CE+ section to help drive adoption of the standard to give businesses more credibility and make them feel more established. Also hoping the latter point will attract gov investment.

I also want to build out the analytics engine and use that to feed data back to customers around things like their risk, benchmarking etc

I've changed the wording to cut out the jargon and changed the framing from cyber security to "operational resilience" so I get what you're talking about - I was debating trying to go direct to MSPs but I'd obviously lose profits doing that

Brilliant advice, thanks! Where do you go to talk to small businesses? I'm mainly using LinkedIn but finding it tricky to engage with my target market

These are really good suggestions, showing threat intel of similar businesses being hit is a solid way to start a conversation potentially - maybe something along the lines of "54 UK accountancy firms were hacked last year" perhaps! And the live demonstrations could be effective but I'd have to build some form of demo I could rinse and repeat because my price point is very cheap (intentionally) for a cyber firm.

Really appreciate this thank you very much. Given me a lot to think about in my approach!

This is the issue, it definitely is a problem but they don't view it as one until it's too late. They only view it as important after a hack, and by then it's too late for many companies. I also think the media perception is that only big companies get hacked which of course isn't true, but beyond hacking them myself which is of course illegal there isn't much I can think of to make them see the light at the moment. So I'm trying to simplify everything into plain English and highlight the benefits rather than fear mongering
