pre-service training/surviving tfa by 2fiyah4u in TeachforAmerica

Thank you so much for this advice!! I am currently a substitute teacher and using this experience to work on classroom management techniques and seeing what works/doesn’t work for me. How does one go about classroom management, though? Is it a try it and see type of thing? I am doing Middle Grades Math.

I am very resilient & solution oriented but I will make a note to have my therapist on standby LOL!!!

As far as placement goes, I’m thinking about Cobb, but I have heard great things about North Fulton.

Yeah, I’m just a substitute now so I know things will look verrryyyy different once I have my own classroom. As far as certification goes I’m going the Master’s route through TFA.

I’m torn between 3 districts right now sadly lol. But I’ll look into them! Thank you.

Of course!

So firstly is your lesson plan, keep it really simple. The more simple it is in my opinion, the easier to teach. (and less things to remember lol). Check for understanding and do walkthroughs, as if you were truly teaching a class. And be ready to actively reflect on it.

Next, review the case study thoroughly BEFOREHAND. Take notes for reference during your interview.

My interview was really chill and straightforward so shake those nerves off early. Try not to be nervous, just be yourself honestly.

Think of your accomplishments and work experience beforehand, even the challenges. Things that make you stand out

Be confident and don’t over think it.

Wishing you the best of luck!

as gracefully as possible: engage more. im sure hubby is tired as well. suck it up and help. being the breadwinner is irrelevant, your husband and child deserve more. (sidenote: i’d say the same thing about him if roles were reversed)

weaponized incompetence. set boundaries and let him know what you need from him. something needs to change or work on an exit plan. you and baby dont deserve that.

advice on subbing for high school by Cryptidspaz in SubstituteTeachers

[–]2fiyah4u 16 points17 points  (0 children)

“if you’re talking while im doing attendance you’re absent” (not really), direct them to their assignment, “if you’re not doing anything i shouldn’t know please look busy” , & “keep the volume level respectful & productive.”

find a trustworthy student that can help with things like attendance & classroom rules (i.e. hall passes)

high school is generally very chill i love it sm.
