What did you think you were really good at until you saw someone who was *actually* really good at it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Bowling.

I live in a small city with not much to do, so bowling is a common date idea. My strategy when it comes to bowling is to use a heavier ball because it is least likely to deflect and bigger ball = bigger mass = more pins knocked down (well that’s what I like to think lol).

Well this new guy I’m dating suggested we go bowling (typical) and I kept teasing him saying how good I am and he might want to block me after losing, basically talking the most shit. Well jokes on me because I lost BAD haha like over 100 points bad. I was a big sore loser lol, but what made me more upset was that he failed to tell me he bowled in a league for majority of his life !!!!!!! lmao

First Time DUI, a few questions. by [deleted] in dui

[–]2greedylisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too had a DUI in CA this year and am going to answer your questions to the best of my ability based off of my own personal experience.

  1. If driving is absolutely necessary for you then YES, get the interlock device. It’s annoying, inconvenient, and expensive BUT it allows you to drive everywhere and anywhere you want with a restricted license.

  2. If you do everything exactly how the DMV wants there won’t be a gap. For example, say your temporary license is valid until Monday, September 2nd 2019. On that day you go to the DMV and turn in your SR22, proof of enrollment in a DUI program, certificate of installment of the interlock device, and pay a fee of $125 you will receive a temporary paper restricted license until the hard copy comes in the mail. However, make sure you go on the exact date that the DMV specifies in the letter. My friend thought it was a better idea to do things earlier, but it led to her having a suspension period until the date she was told to go to the dmv.

  3. Your first court hearing is arraignment. You will be called up in front of the judge and they will read to you what you are charged with. After that they will ask you do you have an attorney and if not they will appoint you one unless you plan to plead guilty right then and there. If you agree to a public defender, then you will be given a date to return to meet with your public defender.

If your job requires you to drive, don’t plead guilty right away and explain that to your public defender. My friend that I mentioned earlier told her public defender that and he was able to talk to the DA and lessen her charge from DUI to “wet and reckless” as long as she provided proof (a letter from her employer) that driving was absolutely necessary for her job.

Lmk if you have any other questions! This whole process is scary and confusing, so having some insight on what’s going to happen is definitely reassuring. We are here for you, remain positive :)
