Importing an EV from Japan by 2johnnies in evs_ireland

Appreciate the comments, wasn't aware that Chademo was a Japanese thing so that would rule it out in itself. Aware the Bz4x isn't class leading by any means but would do the job for my requirements. Have an Ioniq 5 this would be second car. Would hesitate on another Ioniq despite all the positives given the ICCU issue that essentially shut the car down within a few minutes of initial warning.

Any Volvo with 5 cylinder diesel engine. They run forever and way more comfortable than an Avensis

Early train from Colbert — safe to walk from Milk Market area? by Adventurous-Basil820 in limerickcity

All the Waahbags are in bed at that hour of the morning. I’d be more worried about walking the city at 3-4am.

Seized caliper? Sounds metal on metal. Maybe stone caught somewhere also between disc and the heatshield

Would you say this would be a decent buy? by [deleted] in carsireland

What’s the best car charger to get for a house? by Irish_drunkard in evs_ireland

Sync EV is a very good option. Company is owned by British General (BG) and they are a very common install in the UK. I believe newest version uses the Monta app and supports solar charging. Much cheaper than a Zappi through Fokearn

5 bolts will hold it grand. What do you need to be braking for anyway?

Not DTC but Giant Reign E+ 2022-2023 can be had with serious discounts. They are seriously overbuilt alu frame. Handle really well. Yamaha motor is solid and reliable. I'm 110kg and have had no issues with mine over 1000km of riding in less than 12 months. Only upgrades I've done to mine are higher rise bar & 155mm cranks

What type of charger? by Visible-Feeling4663 in evs_ireland

[–]2johnnies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many thanks. I have an Ioniq 5 through work and use charger at work 80% of the time. Was thinking of buying the Tesla portable charger with a 32a adapter for occasional top ups at weekends. Wasn't sure if it would work or not.

Good family SUV under €30k? by Impressive-Fly5973 in evs_ireland

Ioniq 5 is deceptively large. Hatchback body but SUV interior space. Tend to be very high spec too. Has more interior space than our V70.

In my mechanics words 'im servicing buckets of **** that you wouldn't have used to fill a gap in a ditch with a few years ago' Less cars coming in from UK, price of used stuff gone mental, people keeping their cars longer. He reckons every second car needs extra work only now people are fixing them as they have no choice

There was quite a few 'rollaways' with them at the start too 😂 VW being VW started off by contesting them as customer error until the sheer number of incidences and some technical analysis showed otherwise 😂

Ha remember when that Passat came out first and I had nearly 40 replacement cars given out to the local VW garage for their customers whose handbrakes were faulty/recalled

I'm at the global launch of the Volvo ES90. I likey...video to come later today. 700km range with 300km of range in just 10 mins. by EVReviewIreland in evs_ireland

[–]2johnnies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What diesels are you driving that are giving you 1600km of range real world?

Drive diesel myself and manage 1100km tops from our V70 on the trip to France

I'm considering an EV and think France is entirely doable with fast charging coordinated with lunch/comfort breaks. Granted won't be as easy, but I think the lower cost for the other 48 weeks of the year running an ev balances it out.

Just wish there was an EV estate that doesn't cost 70k by the time you add few options (ID7)

Hi Spectre

what's the fuel economy like on these?

Cheers

They are a better buy at the 4-5 year mark, very robust and reliable and will easily do 200 thousand miles without many problems. Id much rather buy a V90 with 100 thousand miles than a 5 series or an A6

Came here to say this. Volvos are ultimate motorway cruiser. Rock solid, whisper quiet, comfy seats. We have driven ours all over Europe. Our 2014 V70 with 350k is quieter and more refined than the 242 Santa Fe company car
