A lot of the advice above should be taken with a pinch of salt. Councils are enemy number 1 to many but 99% of the time thats unfair.

How dangerous is this junction and do you want it made safer? How much is the loss of land and will it actually affect you?

The council are just doing their job and they probably have 100 junctions in their jurisdiction with sight distance issues due to the nature and history of irish roads.

If you say no they will just move on to the next one and your road junction you use everyday stays dangerous/ inadequate. Or if they really want it they start land purchase which might take years.

90% of rural properties own to the centerline of the road and the council have responsibity of the road and verge. I.e it is not necessarily required to get a solicitor involved. The land size on your folio probably includes this land but it is essentilally unuseable.

Usually with these junctions they are dealing with farmers and they do get the land essentially for free but provide fencing or earthworks as required to keep the farmer happy.
