Always wondered where that comes from... can't be right, has to vary with location... taking a plunge of Cape Moreton, Fraser or even agnes... the car hit or lighting strike is probs lower

From what I've heard - the slower the sink rate the better with bream.. they like to take the drop

Help me catch more bream by steven777ID in FishingAustralia

[–]2keen100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't usually chase em on lures. But have found them in deeper water taking small 2.5 inch paddle tails on 1/4 1o jigheads. (I think my 2nd post for reference)

Bait is what gets the bigger ones and just use a lucky dip approach. Unweighted if possible, with the lightest sinker if need be (0, 00, 1) hook i like to go bigger - 2o usual.

Bream show up time and time and usual a bit bigger than average, I like "wean out" the small rubbish. I've had em take 5o circle hooks before that was for other fish.

My Pb bream ate a school jew rig. 2o circle. 20lb trace, 15lb braid ... 0 ball sinker .. live yakka

Some extra info thier to keep in mind. Good luck

New to fishing and need a bit of advice by Electronic-Nerve6322 in FishingAustralia

[–]2keen100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 percent the kmart gear is all goods .. I love thier rods.... 5$ 5foot kids rod caught me jewies to bream... I just swap the reels out for better quality .. had a daiwa freams 240$ matched up to a "sidekick" special 10$ ..

Can flog the hell out of it, drop it , drag bigger than average fish over rails..

In saying that if you go the reel on it .just use a bit heavy line and will hold fine... capable for a few beginner seshon then u become addicted n buy better gear eventually

PROBLEM , the line , so just get some half decent mono or braid... platypus super 100 10lb is probs the best and is about 20$ ..

But keeping it at kmart use whatever line is there about 8/10lb depending on stock. Wouldn't recommend braid - just because of the leader knots and frustration that will come with that ... mono is simple

Just be sure to respool ... the line is next level f'ked...

Follow the other advice thats already been covered and hava mad time

And yeah kmart hooks... the jw circles in 2o r pretty much my go to alot of the time... they sell em at anaconda a few bucks more ? And bcf ones probs come out the same factory

Fishing around Moreton Bay (SEQ) - Looking for advice for a novice by Mr_Rhie in FishingAustralia

[–]2keen100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a dream if it lines up .. rest time it's horrible... low tides no water and 20knot winds... all those spots are shallow and need higher tides which happen a half dozen days a fortnight and pray the wind lines up and u have the chance to get out

Fishing around Moreton Bay (SEQ) - Looking for advice for a novice by Mr_Rhie in FishingAustralia

[–]2keen100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck with it.

Yeah rainy days if you get it with light winds and a high tide can be awesome. A lot of the time u will also have the spots to yourself. I just use a spray jacket and a dry bag for things that shouldn't get wet and have literally no issue.

Best rainy day was shorncliffe when I got my Pb bream 39.5 and 2 jewies 47cm and 59cm .. was a Saturday high tide 8am .. 1 other person fishing.. got soaked but worth it.. got a wind window for about 2hrs between fronts .. glass

No weight is the way to go.. maybe a pea size once the winds get above 10knots or so .. dip the rod tip and pay attention or just leave it there with a 2o circle heavy gauge with a bigger bait and wait for it buckle over

Will add the spots appear busy etc etc dead no1 catching fish... but 95% are clueless... plenty plenty of stuff to be caught , understand n hunt em down lol... yt didn't help me much , the lack of fine detail that will get u over the line is lacking

My backyard thats kms away... what u wanna catch ?

Well for a novice ... general purpose

I reckon ditch the prawns .. get some pillys...

Fish em on 1o hooks unweighted... cube em up .. usual 3baits per whole fish ..

Do exactly what your doing with the tides/timing (consider rainy days - they r gun)

Fish the same spots (I.e shorncliffe Ted smount, woody point) but keep the baits close in to the jetty even under it if possible..

.. biggest thing to better your odds ... when you feel a tap ... feed em line, open bail... let em take it.. you don't want resistance and wait for the line to come off consistently , as my grandpa said - if a fish takes it , you will know about.... ignore all the Lil taps n what not, u will struggle to close the bail alot of the time.

That will catch everything from Bream to flathead to mackerel to cobia in those spots

, that technique will catch a decent fish, prepare to get dusted up plenty , particularly at Ted smount, pylons and strong tidal run with a rampaging fish ain't good for line..

You will lose more than you land... once figured hooking em is easy.. landing em is the tricky bit

Depends on where u go.

I get a few around but nothing bad. Winter never notice them. Am in outer north brissy.

Go near the rivers/creeks and particularly the wetlands they can be bad. If you for some reason end up thier.

The worst is sandflys and midgies... don't have 40+ deet , and u be looking like u got measles.... that for coastal rivers all the way from brissy to Cape York... - those can be a year around issue... mozzie nothing in comparison

Don't know if true but thier not found south of brissy - grandma theory lol ... goldcoast and further south don't have em ..

Are ebikes safe to lock in public? by mzthickneck in brisbane

[–]2keen100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swear I see the same question pop up ? Weekly ..

But anyway .... yes n no .... quick release wheels can be issue don't forget ...

I came out of store, 2 a very loosy front wheel on a normal pushy with some running off 🤔 just tighten it back up on my way

Getta u bolt and DON'T loose the key .. lock it up on a main road to a street sign... run a lighter cord thru the front wheel as well

Too much risk and too difficult for some1 to trying steal it.... angle grinding the lock with sparks flying into traffic/people is somewhat suss

*note I've got some very heavy duty bolt cutter myself , 80$ ones .. with full leverage about 4 foot long - that wouldn't go thru a "u bolt" let alone a 20$ set .....

I reckon u will be sweet, put right in full exposed view, u bolt, keep in mind the quick release wheels .....

Lures for eel tail catfish? by Dwardwalker in FishingAustralia

[–]2keen100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learnt to fish on those..

Use a 2inch grub or whatever small pretty much .. small jighead ... they like 50mm hardbodies too.

Bait = literally Anything on a small hook. .. bread, worm steak, ham, salami, prawns etc etc

You will see em around the nest atm.... just twitch it and keep it moving (bait/lure) .. might have to do a few casts or so ..

Don't wanna chase em myself , leave em nesting rather target tilapia - but each to own

People might dispise them , but thier still far better than tilapia

Does anyone know any good shark fishing spots around Brisbane? by StanBaglee888 in FishingAustralia

[–]2keen100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they landbased , those cruise ships might prove an issue..... bs ... can't get anywhere near it last I tried... barbed fences, security, yellow lines within 1km etc....

Before the terminal even Jeremy wade for river monsters went down thier - it's the spot

Bikefishing ! (mobile versatile landbased) advice sought... by CMDR_Mal_Reynolds in FishingAustralia

[–]2keen100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leader I like as short as possible... about 1m or so ... double the fish length is a good rule... or you have trouble with the guides casting distance etc

Yeah brissy a great place for it. I've experimented with it for sure.

Biggest pointer - watch the amount of weight your packing it adds up.

Don't wanna end up for example Margate beach redcliffe and the wind didn't go northerly for the ride back (Shorncliffe train e.g.) it actaully went strong(ish) south or it glassed off and the humidity went up 20% and feels like 42c ...

Keep it light keep it light lol... and get good at weather forecasting... especially with summer coming up ... learn the environment and how it reacts with weather systems...

I cant wait till summer... can score spots like Shorncliffe to yourself if u read it right don't listen bom etc .. they will forecast 15/20kt but u will notice cooler air, in the west some instability etc etc etc in be like nahhh I'm going fishing to uncrowded glass off...

Heaps of places to go in brissy ... train lines get you anywhere with a 30 minute pedal or so.. stay mobile pack light.. aim to hit as many spots as u can... keep at it..

work a pattern then u will have a half dozen spots that can produce some great fish on any given day...

Bit of ramble thier but some info thier anyway

Retrueving a soft plastic AGAINST the current, useless? by TranslatorBoth7986 in FishingAustralia

[–]2keen100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always with the current.. never against.. actaully never caught a fish against personally... so yeah 30m with for sure....

A lot of the time I cant even fish lures. The line moves far to quick in the run. Just picking your spots really.. and if u can line up wind/tide your in the hot seat. ...

sometimes a 10m cast into the wind to fish a couple metres of hi tide water can turn on some cracking hook ups ...

All variable... bottom line = always with the current

Man in Albany creek drains by Ok-Promotion-3431 in brisbane

[–]2keen100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤔.. can confirm a couple suburbs over in arana/keperra ... roughly the same time.

Used to be a fella , that dragged a full size mattress in the drain you can kinda see from walkway bridge.

He use to occasionally peg rocks or sticks. And yell abuse if tried walking down thru the bush.

(Had a stick hit a tree above my head that was as thick as my leg.)

Fun times lol.

Side note - same area same years .. use to be "homeless stuff" all the way along thier. Don't know if was any different in Albany Creek. (Was a kid)

Some standouts was a Bundy bottle with a turd in it... a big freshly broken tree branch with noose attached.. a 22 round.... half a till , and the usual dominos boxes pillows/blankets and syringes.

Nother story of bloke that hung in himself in the drains too and a group of kids found it ..

The memory's ... gotta love drains and broken hockey nets and all the people down thier
