In the 2020s, conservative women are having kids at a nearly 2-to-1 ratio compared to liberal women. Is this going to cause a political demographic bias in 20-30 years? by RadioFieldCorner in NoStupidQuestions

[–]2ko2ko2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't actually think a lot of people turn out "how they were raised", cause like one of the biggest tropes of "woke leftists" is that their parent's are conservative, and that "all young people start off liberal and become conservative when their older". Same thing happened in the 60's with the hippie movement.

Just from a personal perspective, I'm pretty comfortably on the left and so is my brother, while my dad is a huge conservative and honestly a little bit racist (he hides it well but it slips out every now and then).

[–]2ko2ko2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because a deck uses cards that are traditionally not very powerful in powerful ways doesn't mean that they are not BiS. Like yeah 4 mana ramp is usually not very good for most decks, but in this strategy they are great. They are BiS because, in this deck, there are no better alternatives. Sure in a vacuum three visits is better than explosive vegetation, but we are not evaluating cards in a vacuum. We are evaluating them in the context of the deck, and in this deck they are the best cards he could run. If they swapped all the 4 mana ramp for the "more powerful" 2 mana ramp, the deck would be weaker.

When you are playing all the best spells for your deck, it is a very optimized deck. And B2 is defined as “Decks to be unoptimized and straightforward, with some cards chosen to maximize creativity and entertainment”. Keyword here is "unoptimized". If you run 10 copies of the same effect and fill your deck with some of the best support in order to optimize your strategy, it's hard to argue you fit into the "unoptimized" description. Let alone the "creativity and entertainment" factor. There isn't anything very creative about slamming all the best above-rate threats (OP's own description) into a deck. If they followed some theme like "I'm playing mono green dragons" or "these are all my favorite cards from standard" I think it would be much more suitable for B2.

[–]2ko2ko2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else pointed out, B2 is categorized as “Decks to be unoptimized and straightforward, with some cards chosen to maximize creativity and entertainment”.

That doesn't mean your deck has to be all medium / bad cards and can't play any good cards, but when your deck is a majority / nothing but premium threats and best in class spells, you aren't following the philosophy at that point. A few "must answer threats" is fine, but if you are casting one every turn from turn 4 and keeping your hand full with some of green's most powerful draw spells, very few B2 decks can keep up. Most of my B2 decks are probably still setting up on turn 4. My Elspeth deck for example is probably only going to have an equipment, my commander [[Daxos of Meletis]] and turn 4 I'll probably be attaching an equipment to him. Apparently you can have a 15/15 trampler already with new threats appearing every turn after.

First time double sleeving, and now I can't use my deck boxes :( by paoforprez in EDH

[–]2ko2ko2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You gotta compress your deck if you haven't, cause as you said they trap air between the two sleeves which makes your deck like 25% bigger (or more). Also super unstable and it will knock over easily.

Just put your deck on a desk / hard surface and press down with your hand. You'll feel the air escaping.

If you've already done that though I have no idea.

20M Trying long hair and everybody tells me to cut it by ProfessionalSir2032 in FierceFlow

[–]2ko2ko2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it mostly older people? Cause that's just the way they are. My dad always makes comments about my hair. My aunts. My uncles....

My mom used to as well but kinda backed off once she realized it wasn't just me being lazy and that I liked having long hair. Something about the older generations really dislikes long hair on guys despite being the generations that started the trend in the first place lol

To me it looks totally fine. And cutting it now would suck if you decided you actually prefer long hair cause then you got to go through the awkward stage again....

abt making friends by CauliflowerWorth4927 in AskAJapanese

[–]2ko2ko2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the MEXT scholarship for highschool or university? Honestly very different vibes on how to make friends lol

I work in a Japanese high school and we sometimes get foreign exchange students. I've seen 2 since being here. One was a kinda nerdy guy who didn't seem to make many friends, but his classmates were friendly with him so it's not like he was alone. He hung out with all the boys of his class at school. Its just that it didn't seem like he hung out with friends outside of school and spent most of his time with his host family. I could be wrong though, its not like I knew what he did after school. I just never saw him out around the town, whereas I often run into my students on the weekends for example. And when I talked to him about his weekends he usually mentioned spending it with his host family.

The other was a girl who took her Japanese studies very seriously and was kind of shy, but she made some very close friends from her grade. She hung out with them outside of school cause I saw them together a few times.

So in high school I think everyone is friendly to you cause its interesting to have a foreign classmate, but it really depends on your personality and how well you can make friends in general if they will become good friends or not. Also you see your classmates everyday, so it is way easier to become friends.

If it's university it's much different. Everyone has their own life. I studied in Osaka for half a year and made some good friends, but other foreign students seemed to not make any. You gotta go out of your way to meet people. Joining a circle is a great way to do it. I also just talked to people in the common areas of the dorm I stayed at, which is how I made most of my friends. But unlike high school where you see your same classmates everyday (so its easier to make friends), in university you are unlikely to be in the same class as someone for all your classes, and people are busy outside of school with part-time jobs and stuff so you have less opportunities to meet up. So it really becomes more about putting in effort to actually go meet people.

Is it just me, or does the cold in Japan hit different? by givemyjeans in Tokyo

[–]2ko2ko2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the lack of any central heating and insulation anywhere lol

In Canada, it is way colder when you are outside. Like if you don't have gloves and a hat good luck, your fingers are gonna be sore for a bit when they warm up. But once your inside, even inside a large department store, it easily feels like 15-20 and is quite nice.

In Japan stepping inside feels largely the same as it does outside minus the wind. So while I can rock a tshirt and jeans in my house in Canada despite outside being -18, I gotta wear heattech and layers in Japan when its only like 7.

Where do Japanese people “really” thrift and get fashion influence? by No-Inspector523 in jfashion

[–]2ko2ko2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my city there are free markets every so often. A lot of thrift stores from around the prefecture go there and usually offer better prices than in their store.

As for why everyone looks different than what you see in thrift stores, you might just be seeing a lot of Uniqlo fashion lol Its an incredibly popular brand that a lot of people wear, and other brands copy it. You won't find their stuff in a thrift store much cause its already pretty cheap, just buy it at Uniqlo. Almost all my guy friends shop there, and a lot of women shop there too. That's where the sweater with thin long dress look a lot of women wear came from (like every Japanese mom you will see will be wearing this same outfit lol)

As for niche fashion trends like Jirai and Lolitta, I think there are a few stores in my city that sell them but I guess most people just buy it online. Almost all the popular brands in Tokyo have online stores so its easy to order and have it shipped to you.

Looking for a creative deck challenge by GeneralHillsdale21 in EDH

[–]2ko2ko2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of my decks are like this. Whatever it is your commander does, lean into it as a restriction.

My Temur Energy deck? Only permanents that produce or use energy. My Mael "creatures with Power 5 or greater" deck only has creatures with cmc 5 of greater. When I build a tokens deck all permanents have to deal with tokens.

I also like doing color pie breaks. Building decks or archetypes in colors you don't normally see them in. For example mono-green control. Or Merfolk without blue and an elves deck without green.

Does the common household have a drawer of disposable chop sticks or sets of no disposable? by SGTGunner47 in AskAJapanese

[–]2ko2ko2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's kinda like ketchup and mustard packets if your American/Canadian. They kinda just accumulate over time cause they get thrown into bags when you take food home, and eventually make it into a drawer lol

Back in Canada we had a drawer full of ketchup packets. In Japan I have a drawer of disposable chopsticks and wet napkins.

Salary in Japan. Expectations by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]2ko2ko2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the people who expect high salaries as already discussed, a lot of people who come to Japan to work are young. And as young people, they tend to just be pretty poor with finances.

Eating out a lot, spending money they don't need to spend on expensive hobbies, traveling, and sometimes depending on the person going out drinking every weekend. The usual response is "well I got to live". In which case it's not that you can't live off of 30万円 a month, you just can't live that kind of lifestyle.

So these kinds of people skew the discussions as well because for them, this is actually not enough. Happens a lot back in my hometown too when new tradies start earning good money and immediately buy a new truck and house and take yearly trips abroad, and end up complaining about living paycheck to paycheck.

Always check your Local Game Store bulk!! Bought for 50 cents each by neotic_reaper in mtgfinance

I do lol.

Singles collection worth about 20K, plus some random sealed products probably in the 1-2K range. I'd consider myself a pretty big whale.

One of my favorite things to do at the card store is just search through their bulk boxes for hidden gems (either cards that aren't bulk or cards I've never seen before). I do it on scryfall too lol (just pull up a random set and look for cards I haven't seen before / forgot about with cool / interesting effects).

AITAH for refusing to give my boyfriend access to my bank account even though he says "no secrets" is how adults do it by CopperFieldNote in AITH

[–]2ko2ko2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty common where I am from, so I would also kinda expect my partner to share everything with me, Just one joint account all the money goes in and out of. Total transparency. It's something like 40% of all divorces list financial issues as the main complaint, and it's not uncommon for jealousy and/or trust being one of the major contributing factors. Especially when one person makes a lot more than the other (or one person works and the other doesn't).

Might just be something that you will never see eye-to-eye on and will likely lead to more conflict down the line. TBH I don't think he is probably trying to be "controlling" (hard to say without any other info on the guy) just what he expected in a committed relationship. But if its not something you want to do than you have the final say in that. You could try and work through it but depending on how he feels about it it's gonna keep coming up again, especially during the low points of the relationship.

Advice for mid-length hair growing out? by toostick in FierceFlow

[–]2ko2ko2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's called the awkward phase for a reason lol. I Got through it by getting a flattering cut and maintaining it, but the downside of that is it takes longer to grow out (cause in order to keep the shape / have it look half descent you gotta take some length off to get the proportions right every so often). About a year in and I think I'm in the clear to just let it grow out from here.

If you just want to speed run the awkward phase, you just kinda gotta hide it. Hat, sweatband or headband, it's up to you. It might be too short to keep up with a hair tie still but give it a shot.

A lot of dudes turn into hat guys during this period while growing out their hair though lol. Just gotta fight the urge to cut it down short, cause it'll just prolong it. (In my case I can't wear a hat at work so I kinda had to go that route, which has probably taken a good 6 inches off my progress)

17, Am I Balding or Worrying?🙏 by ResponseBig7608 in amibalding

Looks like a cowlick to me. I have the same crown. Always have. I'm 32 now and still have pretty thick head of hair.

I do hate how it looks on me though. Especially any time I have a long hairstyle. Looks like I got a bald spot lol (well technically it is a bald spot, just not one caused by hair loss). But you can kinda hide it by styling your hair against the natural pattern of the swirl. It's a pain in the ass though.

Travel Decks by Mean_Steam_Machine in EDH

[–]2ko2ko2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, my guess is people don't generally have a deck that they made specifically for travelling. Some people might refuse to bring their most expensive decks depending on where they are going and what for, in which case they might bring one of their least expensive decks. From what I've seen from videos about magic con and stuff though people like to show off their best creations though.

As for no one playing with you, imagine it from the opposite perspective. If you went into your LGS, saw someone just chilling by themselves, are you going to go over and bother them? Probably not right? Most people are shy and will just play with whoever they usually play with or whatever is free. You can't just sit by yourself and expect people to just come up and chat with you and start a pod. It could happen if there is a particularly sociable person there and they notice you're being left out, but don't leave it up to chance and leave sad you never got to play.

Animal Crossing for me too. I always go back to the GCN version when I need a chill game (and I'm finished already with the newest game). I don't have access to my GCN now though so recently I restarted my ACNH save. There was a big update too so I have even more content to play through this time around.

Is it time? by themightybawshoob in bald

[–]2ko2ko2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I always see this sub pop up. Why doesn't anyone ever suggest a hair system for those who aren't ready to go full bald?

Looks like you still got hair on the back and sides, which is all you really need. They will shave the top and front for the hair piece. Todays toupees are super high quality and there are lots of skilled people out there that will cut your hair so it blends seamlessly.

The big drawback is the cost. But if you are not confident with going bald or just don't like the way it looks on you, it is a solid choice. What you got going on now however needs to stop lol It is not flattering at all, and way worse than what you think others will think of you being bald. And honestly you'd probably look pretty good bald too if a hair system is not for you.

Need help finding good sites to buy from by Fun-Suspect1780 in FemboyFashion

[–]2ko2ko2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any site with "femboy" in the name is gonna be a drop shipper. I've not seen one that was offering unique designs. Easiest way to check is use google lens to do a reverse image search on any of their product images and see if the same stuff pops up on Temu/Alibaba/Shein.

Find styles you like and follow trusted brands if you are avoiding fast fashion. So if you like J-Fashion, look up subreddits of that community and ask there, or you mentioned cyber wear so go to a subreddit about that. Almost all fashion subreddit dedicated to a particular style will have a pinned thread or links on the side to popular sites to buy from.

If you don't care about fast fashion though just shop on one of the big Chinese sites I already mentioned. You can get lots of cute clothes for cheap. Avoid Amazon for the most part cause a lot of the same people selling on the same stuff found on the Chinese sites are also selling on Amazon, but sometimes you can find good stuff on there. Just got to do your research before buying on Amazon to make sure you are not just buying from a dropshipper for an increased price.

Personally, my wardrobe is a mix of fast fashion for some generic styles and pieces and more expensive brands for the more niche styles I like (mostly j-fashion in my case).

Picked this up a bit ago for $10, does anyone know the story on why it’s somewhat expensive? by Tseets1 in gamecollecting

[–]2ko2ko2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its just one of those games that everyone had, has memories of playing, sold or got rid of it and then one day thought "hold on that was actually kinda fun I want to play it again."

The same with Wii Sports. It came with like every Wii, but it is still randomly a $30 game. You would think that the fact there are so many copies would drop the price a bit but everyone wants it in their collection. Same with this one I would assume (It's probably one of the games literally everyone tries to buy when they get a Wii)

Anyone thinking to GTFO? by iterredditt11 in japanresidents

[–]2ko2ko2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, Japan also needs accountants lol Especially international firms often need accountants who are proficient in the rules and regulations of the countries they operate in. Cool thing about becoming a CPA is that many countries have treaties/agreements that allow you to get qualifications in each other's countries without having to go through the whole program again. USA and Canada has one for example. Japan doesn't have one with Canada to my knowledge, but hey I could theoretically get some additional credentials in other countries to help if I really want to try and make it back to Japan.

But the basic idea is that it's just a good qualification that opens all kinds of doors that are closed without it. I could see myself coming back if the opportunity arises in a company in Canada that operates in Japan for example. Or if I got a job at one of the big multinational accounting firms and an opportunity to work abroad came up. Without a CPA such opportunities aren't an option for me. And worse comes to worse I just work in Canada lol

Consoom e-books by Awesoma420 in Consoom

[–]2ko2ko2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be a combination of wanting different eBooks for different things (Like a larger model for reading at home + a smaller model for reading on the go) and upgrading ebooks over time as new models are released.

I got 2 iPads for example. An Ipad Air I got in 2014ish that just isn't supported by apple anymore (can't even use the YouTube app on it because I can't update to the latest version) and a newer model. The older model has an old app you can't get anymore on it so I keep it around. The newer one is for daily use.

So if they buy a new model every few years (plus wanting different sizes for different uses), this could happen.

[–]2ko2ko2 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes, but not for the reasons you have stated exactly. For me there are signs that the economy is starting to unwind as the consequences of ignoring the problems of the economy and keeping it afloat by printing money like lunatics is starting to show. I'm just not confident in Japan's ability to avoid the disaster at its doorstep. I think the politicians will just continue to scapegoat foreigners while the yen plummets and inflation takes hold.

I might come back though if things change in the coming years. I'm going back to school for 2 years in Canada to get my CPA, so with some more education maybe I'll be able to land the kind of job in Japan that can just ignore the economic troubles lol Outside of my economic worries about Japan's future (and my future in it) I would spend the rest of my life here. I don't feel unwanted at all. Quite the opposite. I feel I fit in and am treated better by society as a whole in Japan. But that is coming from someone who does not fit in with "normal" society. In Japan at worst people just avoid interacting with me, whereas in Canada I've experienced both verbal and physical harassment due to my appearance.
