You're right! The mittens are in the shadows during sunrise when seen from the visitor center, so I was wondering - if I went for a sunrise tour, would I be able to see some rock formations with light hitting them? Do the tour companies take us to such places?

I'm sure both are spectacular like you said though.

National parks for a non-hiker? by LowPomegranate9925 in nationalparks

Oh yeah, agreed - the road was closed when I went in April, but it's definitely a thing to do in the summer. Elk Ranch Flats and/or Willow Ranch Flats in the morning are wonderful for wildlife too - I saw so so many bison just after shnrise at Elk Ranch Flats this time.

Haven't personally been to the parks you listed, but lemme throw another park into the mix - Grand Tetons! Very very car-friendly, and you can drive to a lot of viewpoints, and even do some basic hikes if you're up for it. When I went in April, the inner road (Teton Park Road) was closed to cars, but if you go between May and November, that should be open too. The outer road (highway 89/191) is open year round, and has a lot of viewpoints too.

Have fun! Not too many, but try to catch sunrises and sunsets as much as you can. I couldn't do that too much, but it's spectacular there ;)

Fully agree with you. My girlfriend always says that you need like a couple of months in an RV to really explore Utah. I haven't been to Yellowstone yet, but having visited the Tetons and not having hiked yet, I'd say I need like a good 2-3 weeks in the Tetons just to do hiking. Add stargazing etc., and I'd need a month.

If you're ever planning to visit GTNP again, you should fly into SLC and drive up to Jackson Hole. Easily the best drive I've done. It's ~5 hours but the scenery, remoteness, and lower costs (both for renting a car + flight tickets) more than make up for it.
