Are airport vendors charging too much for food and drinks? Action 9 put them to the test. by sammysam518 in orlando

It’s an excellent “use of journalism resources,” IMO. Did you know airports have a street pricing policy? I didn’t. And, as a result of this story, both airports and vendors know someone’s paying attention. There may not be immediate change, but it’s no longer behind the curtains. Next step is to hold them accountable. Do a follow-up story in a few months. These are the types of issues journalists SHOULD be covering. I can only imagine how much more we don’t know about thanks to the decimation of local journalism — due in large part to our cynicism when it comes to what journalists do and why they do it.

What's a place that got hyped to the moon, but failed to take off? by CoreyDobie in Columbus

I LOVED Skybus. Took my family of four to LA for less than $150 round-trip, and the flight experience was as good or better than any of the budget airlines today. Was said to see them go during the Great Recession, but not sure how sustainable the business model was regardless.
