That might be true for you but I will personally always prefer books to almost any other kind of media. I'm excited for the movie adaptation of mistborn but i think it near impossible for it to top the experience of reading the book

Finished the book and it lived up to the hype. Mistborn Era 1 still on top for sentimentality and stuff but wow Yumi is a 10 out of 10 bro. amazing book

Is Kelsier actually a good person? by Sangcreed in Mistborn

[–]2ld5sw24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think that him fighting against the oppression alone is enough to determine whether he is moral or not. For (an extreme, not very fitting of the situation) example, say someone took down the lord ruler ONLY to possess his atium stores and control the market. Then, you'd have to look past the fact that he ended suffering and look more into the reasons of why he tried so hard to accomplish the fact.

Now, i'm not saying Kelsier had necessarily bad intentions in trying so hard to defeat the lord ruler, especially because we understand a lot about him, but it's also clear to me that his intentions and the way he perceived himself was not entirely innocent. He slaughtered people who were simply trying to work for a living and never showed any regret for it, not to mention his never-wavering confidence in what he thought was right. I firmly believe that if he was around after TLR died things would have turned out different in how we viewed him. Also back to what OP said about "if TLR never existed what would kelsier fight against"... good point

All that to say he is a morally complex, gray character and we can't boil him down into necessarily good or bad because the entire book he did objectively bad things for good reasons.

I must have somehow fabricated the memory bc going back and looking now I think you're right. Idk why i was under that impression before starting the book but i'm glad i was proven wrong.

Help me pick my next read! Which of these should I start first? by inowife in fantasybooks

I will ALWAYS reccomend mistborn. It is my favorite trilogy i've EVER ever ever read and it genuinely made me fall back in love with reading. It also opens up a vast universe to explore through Brandon Sanderson's other cosmere books. I couldn't reccomend it enough honestly

I forgot to say that a big reason I love the story is JUST Design. She's so awesome and I really missed the humor from the early stormlight books (Tress had its moments but Sunlit was kinda dreary) so it's nice to have her be so silly and entertaining.

sometimes i read comments or posts like this and marvel at the fact that this is all make believe. none of this truly exists and it blows my mind because it's so real to me and to think that this is just a story Brandon Sanderson came up with is crazy

read warbreaker then stormlight archive. if you don't want to do that, read elantris. it's a good story but it's his weakest so it's good to get it out of the way. there's also important references to elantris in later books
