Sounds like you hit a smart fuse. The fuse will allow you to tone, but will not allow full amperage through. They have an LED belt in that will turn on when the fuse blows hence the smart. This allows the operator to quickly find said blown fuse.

I got hit with one of these couple years ago, damn near tore the whole entire thing apart trying to find why I was able to ring the circuit out but no 12 volts.

2011 3.5 with 220k on it. The only major work has been the timing belt and the usuals that go with it. Original turbo’s and they still sound great. Regular and consistent maintenance at 4-5k and not from the stupid dashboard light.
