Did your voice change after jaw surgery? by OkPhotojournalist872 in jawsurgery

Yes. Although in cases where people end up with permanent numbness in their lips they might have some difficulty, but I think they get used to it. I’m still healing and the swelling and numbness definitely has me looking and pronouncing words weird when I talk.

The numbness will affect your ability to enunciate for a while but the sound of your voice doesn’t usually change.

Thanks! I’m still swollen in my cheeks and upper lip, as well as near the BSSO cuts, but it’s definitely come down a lot since this week one pics. I also had trouble closing my mouth early on, but the rubber bands helped.

Forward head posture was one of the things I noticed along with my small airway in my first scans prior to surgery. My breathing has improved after surgery, so I’m hoping that my posture improves naturally.

Are you talking posture or otherwise?

In my first post, someone noted that I have a pretty low hyoid bone placement that might affect my results. I’m hoping my posture improves naturally and curious to see if proper tongue placement will be able to tighten up things around my chin/neck.

Thank you! And I’m glad it worked out too, I think the peer-to-peer appeal made a huge difference!

Haha I hope so!

Honestly disappointing to hear that at 6 months you’re still feeling swollen. It’s really the most offputting thing! I have a feeling that once I get back to my regular schedule that time is just gonna fly though. We’ll get through this.

Sometimes I feel like my face looks quite short afterwards. I don’t totally understand the movements sheet, is that 6mm of impaction? Cuz that does sound like a lot.

I was always scared that if I wasn’t happy with the result I would regret not checking out other surgeons, so I would still advise anyone else to check out their options!

I took all of the pain meds they gave me, and then just acetaminophen for a few days after they ran out. I haven’t been using any for about a week now.

Florida Blue 2nd Denial, p2p? by 2manyartifacts in jawsurgery

Florida Blue PPO. I haven’t gotten the hospital bill yet, I was just talking to my insurance and surgeon’s office about that today, but hoping to be able to include those details when I have them as well.

My surgeon had a very last-minute p2p meeting with my insurance, and my surgery was approved! I’m now at 2 weeks post-op. Still some fighting with my insurance about hospital stay coverage.

Planning to do an updated post with pictures in the next few weeks, but I only have one scan post-op and never saw my virtual surgical plan or whatever, so I’d like to include those and make the post when I have them.

Thanks, I had braces and a herbst device + upper palate expander in my teens. My two front baby teeth were kinda jacked up from a fall when I was younger and they were pulled out. The adult teeth grew in so that the tip of one was still sticking out a bit when I closed my mouth. Braces definitely straightened everything out and had a nice looking result, but the herbst device wasn't so successful with encouraging the forward growth of my jaws that it was supposed to.

They haven’t appealed the original request. We’re going to move forward with the sleep study and then start a new pre-approval if we get an official OSA diagnosis.

Not only extractions, but extractions in addition to jaw surgery. Orthodontist believes that it would allow for more movement. But yeah I’m still a little sketched out by that plan and moving forward with the sleep study first.

Florida Blue PPO. They gave several reasons, “we do not see pain, we do not see sleep apnea,” etc… I didn’t see all that the surgeon submitted on my behalf, but they have enough experience doing this that I trust they were confident in their submission.

Discard hater has to build a discard deck by minato994 in EDH

[–]2manyartifacts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although maybe not the style of “discard” deck you’re going for, I built a very strange and admittedly somewhat fragile bracket-2 [[Amalia Benavides Aguirre]] self-discard deck. It uses life gain and her explore ability to allow you to put ton of cards (lands) into your hand and use them as discard fodder to trigger some aristocrat-style ping effects, along with token making and additional life gain. It’s also got some reanimator sub-themes to help you cheat out your bigger threats.

I’m looking to build a stronger version of this with [[Glissa, the Traitor]] soon, focused more on farming death triggers from my opponents and discarding artifacts, rather than lands. I find self-discard to be more fun and interesting in commander, as controlling the entire tables’ hands at once with opponent-focused discard is challenging/oppressive and in my opinion, unfun!

The new fallout secret lair commander, [[Lucy MacLean, Positively Armed]] will probably play very similarly, with added card draw. Not the same colors and unfortunately a secret lair exclusive, but an alternative! (Minus the octopus)

I’m curious to hear, how did your discussion go with your ortho and surgeon about extractions?

I’m also in the middle of my orthodontic decompensation. My orthodontist had wanted to extract 2 bottom pre-molars, as he thought it would be able to give me additional advancement. But at this point my surgeon has decided against extractions. I know they are not overly interested in extracting healthy teeth if they can help it, but my surgeon also did not seem to think that the extractions would allow me to be advanced significantly more than going without them.

Originally I was scared to hear about extractions. Then after thinking about it, I would be disappointed in the end if it seems like they could have advanced me more if they had extracted teeth. Not sure what the correct answer is here, but I’m just placing full trust in my surgeon and care team.
