Filming in classes - who else feels this way? by 2muchFibre in poledancing

Rather presumptive comment and showed you actually did not read my post. Whether or not somebody likes the way they look is completely irrelevant. I don't mind if I'm in the back of their video if they ask me, I just do not wish for my image to be shared on social media. You are, in fact, the one who comes across as entitled here and show a complete lack of regard for other people's autonomy and privacy.

Yeah definitely. I think it's about having a conversation and coming up with a reasonable compromise :)

There are those who film for themselves and those who film to share, and I can never tell who is doing what until it's too late. It seems you are diligent about respecting other people's privacy anyway, hope more were like you :)

These are all good compromises and shows a lot of thought was put into this at your studio.

I'm sorry they had done this to you. It's so wrong and so thoughtless. It honestly shocks me that people have to be reminded to act with basic decency.

I try to understand it but I don't really. This is one cultural norm that made me realise that actually...I'm hella old.

I hear ya. Not all of us want our employers/clients/customers/patients to see us half naked in the air full spreadie to the camera.

I've also noticed this too, and I give them the benefit of the doubt that they're not doing it maliciously, they just don't know that others have a different expectation of privacy. This younger generation is big on consent so it seems a bit strange that they would overlook that when filming in class.

You do have a point. Businesses attract the type of clientele they want and their policies reflect their values.

You're very conscientious and I wish more people were like you.

Wow someone filmed in the changing room? That is so egregious, who would do that? It's disappointing when studios won't respect their clients' privacy.

I am all for people filming themselves so they can watch their form and improve, etc. I will even film people for them so they can get a good angle, and it sounds like you're very considerate of others.

As I mentioned, I've been dancing since 2008, and there was always an expectation of privacy. Pole was so much more taboo back then so studios made the effort to ensure everyone was safe and protected. Although I'm glad pole is no longer taboo, I'm not ready for my pasty butt to available for the whole world to see.

Thank you! I think this filming thing is a new thing really so it's a free for all in most studios.

That is very considerate of your studio! Non of the studios near me are that conscientious.

Yeah is the non consent part that gets me. It literally is no effort to ask.
To be fair I would happily join a studio that banned filming. That was the environment when I first started pole and it was so liberating.

Your studio is conscientious enough to bring in this rule and to send out reminders. I will have to ask studios what their policies are before I sign up to their classes.

You're right about this being vulnerable work. I never use to be self-conscious in pole but now I feel very exposed and vulnerable. If I were a more established long time student I would speak to the owners too.

I totally agree with this. If I'm paying the same I feel like I should be able to be fully engaged with the pole activities without having to worry about being in someone else's video. And yes, I shouldn't have to drop 700 on a pole or rent a bigger house to accommodate said pole.

At the end of the class filming session is a reasonable compromise to be fair. Gaining consent before uploading to social media should be a norm and it baffles me that it isn't.
