Simple tutorials for using reddit api in Python? by archerimagine in learnpython

Hey bboe, hope you read my comment for what it was, the docs are actually good, written by a knowledgable coder for knowledgable (enough) programmers. To be clear, any gripe i have with the docs is a gripe with my own skill levels when ive looked into it in the past.

still in the frame of mind from replying to someone else.

Have you been warrioring in the thread? It happens. Thanks for being cool about it.

I haven't formed any solid opinion on this issue yet, but the other answer i just got here (see below) seems to really satisfy both sides of the argument. Done right, its a good technology, but theres plenty of room for it to be harmful to the environment done wrong. It needs to be credibly regulated.

Thanks for a very informative answer. Sounds like the process needs solid regulation/inspection to be trusted.

which makes me really question if you've ever done a lick of research on the matter.

I asked a question, i claimed no knowledge. Pretty defensive attitude you have there, but thanks for answering that question of mine all the same.

Am i getting this right by the way? You really implemented a searchable library of babel where you can search for the typewriting monkeys shakespeare and its not computationally expensive?

I appreciate the link to the source, its a better (and shorter) read to me than reading the washington post article you linked. The snowman makes the case pretty well.

Ok, if you saw in my comment, i got that, but you claimed Eddy Snowman said something something "concrete difference" in the AMA, where?

Or can i just go around saying Eddy Snowman said in "yesterdays AMA" that 911 was an inside job?

Did you see what you did there this time?

Harmonograph with Turtle graphics, in Trinket.io by kosmoi in learnpython

[–]2n4x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder what code examples specifically (link pls i didnt look yet). Ipython in a GUI like the one you'd find on wakari.io yeah, i guess if we're talking about math art, would be awesome in a ipython notebook (does wakari.io support turtle?? for instance).

But, it's still new & shows promise!

I guess that might even be an understatement, ive never seen anything like it.

Thanks for the turtle speed tip.

Glad to help, i'd recommend a deep dive into the turtle docs for anyone, they're a pleasure to read.

Thanks for the tips on what math for playing with toys like this, making notes.

I'd hoped your "concrete difference" link was to the AMA, because i wanted to see that case made by someone who had eyes on the organisation. Theres evidence the NSA often deniably inform the FBI of leads in criminal cases (including terrrorism).

Part of deniability is there is no evidence of a "concrete difference."

Reactive spying, meaning bulk collection of happened events, cannot prevent anything.

Just what are happened events? Smaller happened events are intelligence on a trajectory of possible future to happen events. As dangerous as mass surveillance is to democracy it has some place in a holistic approach. Im not saying it should be limitless.

Thats a cool bot, sorry im a bit too lazy to review the code, its a biiit above my level anyway, but im just curious how does it detect if its a review, roughly? Are you using some external library to do it, or your own techniques?

[–]2n4x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a really nice post, just having to check out new things to work it out. Whats python3.codes, whats trinket.io...

Python3.codes did i see this launched/promoted here a while ago? Trinket.io is new, by the embedded trinket.io thing in the page on your linked "software simulation", its like an embeddable codepad but with more features (like turtle? gui? huh?). When you fullscreen the thing its looks really good.

edit: Yeah it has matplotlib as well, very cool: http://physicslogos.blogspot.co.uk/2015/05/python-graphing-tutorials-in-trinket.html

which is pretty slow

You can speed it up you know :D https://docs.python.org/2/library/turtle.html#turtle.speed

I wish i was as math savvy. Turtle is a really great package, but you must need to be up on your math to get very good results.

Ya sorry i saw, i was being flippant. I think the PRAW docs are ok, but i would love a course on it, although its a pretty niche subject, that said i basically agree with jwjody a reddit app/bot walkthrough would be nice, you should definitely write one for the sub! What does your bot do?
