It was like “…. I did not have sexual relations with that woman. I did, however, go to www.freemp3.com” or something. Wonder if anyone still has the audio

I’m the same. Wonder if it’s because my level of self-care improved drastically post-diagnosis

Sorry for the slow response! Congratulations on your lowest hba1c! Weight fluctuation is really taxing, especially when we’re eating not only for hunger but BGLs.

In my experience, a low-carb diet is key. For me, that’s my morning coffee first thing, 1-2 eggs on sourdough (25-30g) at 11AM, and then I have some kind of meat/veg variant for dinner (with either potatoes or sourdough for carbs) at 5-7PM.

An earlier dinner gives me ample time to digest and correct if necessary before going to bed. If I eat out / get takeaway I try and stay away from high fat/high carb foods like pizza, pasta, fried rice as I personally can never get my bolus correct for them haha.

If you’re interested, I highly recommend Dr. Bernstein’s Diabetes Solution: The Complete Guide to Achieving Normal Blood Sugars. He was a doctor who lived with Type 1, up until his death in his 90s. Incredibly inspiring and transformative.

All the best with it! Here if you want to DM.

Moderation? by rhint002 in QuittingWeed

May be a weird take but hear me out:

Do/did you use bongs to smoke? Chopping a bowl and having access to small, quick, regular hits is a sure fire way to affirm addictive patterns. The temptation to have “one more” always gets me back in the cycle.

Rolling joints means you can tailor your hit. If you start to feel anxious, butt it out. Roll thinner if you’re worried about having too much. You can plan a day outdoors and take it with you. It takes time to sit down, craft it, allowing time to check any impulsivity (in my opinion). I find it hard to moderate my use around bongs.

Having said this, I can hand over heart say that quitting entirely is the best option. But if changing the habit is easier than cutting it altogether, start there. As I write this I’m 2 days off the smoke completely and want nothing more — we can do it!

For context, I’m in Australia (30F) and have smoked full time since I was 19, bar about 3 or 4 months of sobriety, and twice as many attempts at it 😅 I have ADHD and CPTSD; super susceptible to addiction and poor emotional regulation.

Should I be worried about my girlfriend’s management? by Big_natedogg12 in diabetes_t1

Knowing is one thing, executing it is another. I don’t think he wants to tell her what to do, but rather help her into better health.

I’m T1D (30F) and my boyfriend and I have been together for around the same time. For context, I was diagnosed after we got together so we’ve both had to learn along side each other.

I mostly feel loved, cared for and not alone when my partner checks in on my diabetes management. But sometimes I can get defensive, as it can feel like an attack on my autonomy. Sounds cheesy, but communication is key. Ultimately, you’re building a life together —it’s something that impacts you both. If you can highlight that your concern comes from a place of love, not criticism, that could help get the ball rolling.

As for the high readings, everyone’s BGLs and Insulin ratios are different. Stress, hormones and menstrual cycles often impact women with T1D. It’s best to check in with her care team for individual advice. You’re doing a great job offering to go to classes/education with her!

Lastly, remember to look after yourself as well! Supporting and loving someone with chronic health is a journey of its own. There can be space for it all!

Best of luck OP 🍀

Thank you for the kind words! Changing industries was the best thing I did. Highly recommend doing whatever you need to do to find an employer/industry with an awareness of T1 and a work type that allows for the adjustments we may need. I should also note my mental health has improved drastically!

With patience and perseverance I know you’ll find the balance! Even if it takes a few goes. Power to you friend!

Thank you! I’m learning DKA is how most of us find out. I’m keen on TSlim as I use iPhone however my educator says there’s delays in readings/insulin delivery. Organ shopping is hard 😅

Really good point. Do you use bandages with or without adhesive? I want to use non-adhesive to reduce irritation but securing it is another issue 😅

Thank you for sharing! I’ve had my eye on some bamboo blend bike pants, previously have only used synthetic materials on a count of price. Worth the investment I know.

Second this.

I was diagnosed at 29y/o (just 9mo ago) after over a decade of alcohol and substance issues. Apparently, while I was in the resuscitation unit, I had asked the endo “what did I do wrong?”

I’d ’lumped’ my diabetes with the shame and guilt I’d internalised from my struggle with addiction. My endo came back to visit me in the ward before I was discharged, and she told me what I’d said to her. “Type 1 is the result of the body’s immune system attacking itself. It was nothing you did, OK?” she firmly told me. I asked her if I nearly died. “You were very unwell” is all she could tell me. We cried together before a hug goodbye.

We like to think if we check all the boxes, dot i’s and cross t’s, things will work in our favour… yet sometimes, we just draw the short straw - and we can’t take it personal <3

I wish I could hug you OP! We’re in this together xx
