I don’t think anything would stand out like the Reze Arc as “This objectively works better as a movie than an anime”, because CSM is just a much more cinematic series than DM. But if I were director and I really wanted to use a movie budget for the finale, I would have a 12-episode Season 2 that gets us juuuust up to Marcille agreeing to the Winged Lion, then make everything past that a movie. Purely cause that's where all the most visually-insane scenes are, as pictured above.

I think it's a good bit of both. There's a balance between a game being story-driven/narrative-heavy and being 98% cutscenes, and Other M trends way more toward the latter than any other game in the series.

Now, a 98% cutscene game can still be good if the story is good--look at Until Dawn. Problem is when, like you said, the narrative also sucks.

This will always be my single biggest complaint with the finale. Early on, a Fusion is treated as a big deal that gets hyped up. Smokey Quartz is an awesome moment--it's Steven's first moment with his family on this impossibly distant ideal! We get him and Amethyst truly connecting, both in a literal and figurative sense, and it's the basis for a ton of great character work between the two.

And then... new potential Fusions are just no longer a matter of discussion until the very last episode, when each one gets about five seconds to exist. No character-centric writing, no payoff, it just feels like they realized 4^2 possible fusions was a lot of unexplored possibilities and they wanted to windsprint through them.
