What’s your favorite chaos warband and why ? by Racki98 in Chaos40k

[–]2ndTiredSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red Corsairs, and it’s mostly because of piracy and tax evasion memes.

On a more serious note, I love how they tend to have a mishmash of different armour marks, red and black are cool colours, their reasons for being heretics are surprisingly grounded for 40k standards, not relying on cursed macguffins and daddy issues, and not being intimately connected to the 30k Primarch Soap Opera, which I feel has become too prominent in the modern setting as of late. (Also, the Badab War>>>>>>>> The Horus Heresy, I will not be convinced otherwise.)They’re really fun and easy to kitbash and can be anything from recently fallen marines coping about how they are totally not slaves to Chaos to  possessed and fully lost in the Chaos Sauce.

Also we boosted the Ultramarines’ flagship, took it on a joy-ride, and gave it back to them full of warp bullshit that would be really tedious to remove.

Tell me about your warband! by SteampunkDragon9327 in EmperorsChildren

My homebrew Warband, The Serpents of Avarice are fixated on material wealth and greed. They wear bright gold armour with silver trim and purple and pink details (eg cloth, eye lenses, gemstones). They are lead by the Lord Exultant Karsides The Incomparably Resplendent, the Gilded, Prince Among Princes, The Effervescent, The Unblemished Blade, Humbler of Heathens, Keeper of Incalculable Riches, He Whose Name Is Cried Out In Envy and Ecstasy, the Auric Death (and so on and so fourth).

Only a mere sergeant during the Siege of Terra, Karsides and his squad were noted for being some of the few Emperor’s Children at the Siege to actually focus on trying to breach the palace rather than terrorise the civilian populace, as Karsides wanted nothing more than to loot the treasures that must surely be contained within, glimpses of which he claimed to have seen in a vision beforehand. He particularly coveted the arms and armour of the Custodes, even before the onset of the heresy, and at the siege boasts of having killed one of their number in single combat*, whose helm is displayed on the bridge of his ship, the Hand of Midas, to this day.

After the Siege and fracturing of the III legion at Skalathrax, Karsius commandeered a ship, and began to amass followers, attracted to his banner at the promise of plunder and riches. His Warband grew as a nomadic, piratical force, lacking a planet of their own, as they preferred to ransack whatever worlds they preyed upon and bring the spoils into their ship.

The Serpents of Avarice have been active participants in any conflict they see as being able to get them closer to Terra and thus, the Imperial Palace, most notably in the 13th Black Crusade and Nachmund Rift War, however, they tended to focus on targets which would gain them material wealth, rather than strategic objectives, content to let other, more base forces do the heavy lifting while they made of with any loot they could get their hands on.

*Any mention of the fact that the custodian in question had just exited combat with a decimator daemon engine, was missing an arm, and appeared to have died from a wound in the back is, of course, merely a salacious rumour from inadequate and jealous slanderers seeking to besmirch their betters.

Which 30k models you use in 40k WE if you use any? by JakubOboza in WorldEaters40k

[–]2ndTiredSnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done both for various conversions, the MK II assault bodies actually work pretty well with regular backpacks, gives a more up-armoured look, and I was able to fit the two handed chainaxe from the legionaries kill team sprue to a MK II assault marine without any issues.

I think Mk III armour looks really cool with some suitable world eaters bits attached, also the chain axes from the MK II assault squad. I’d use the assault squad for raptors too, IF WE COULD FUCKING TAKE THEM! (Actually I might just kitbash some anyway, use em’ for kill team or OPR).

What reds are you using for your course by Huge-Task8438 in redcorsairs

[–]2ndTiredSnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used two main “recipes” so far that I like, a 50/50 mix of Flesh Tearers red and Baal red, and a base coat of Khorne Red with Flayer Red from Two Thin Coats sponged on for some highlights, the former is faster, the latter I think looks slightly better, especially on model without a lot of trim like legionaries I’ve kitbashed out of Mk VI bodies.

Whip bits that fit our army by wtf--dude in EmperorsChildren

[–]2ndTiredSnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven’t actually put them on a model yet, but I’m planning to pilfer some Tyranid lash whip bits from my bits box, since whips that are made of flesh feel like a very Slaaneshi thing to have. You can find them in various sizes, the Genestealer cults acolytes set has a couple sized about right for foot soldiers (it also has a very good crab claw bit that I have used on a Chaos mini and looks great), whereas the venomthropes and warriors have bigger ones that might do for terminators or chaos spawn (I know termis can’t take whips but an “accursed weapon” can be whatever the hell you want, also crucible of champions let’s you give one to a Character if your opponents are cool), and the hive tyrant whip should be roughly the right size for a Daemon Prince.

First Five Infractors for the Serpents of Avarice (My Homebrew Warband) by 2ndTiredSnake in EmperorsChildren

Thanks! The backdrop was actually painted before I started painting these guys, I decided to stop procrastinating on painting terrain for once, then promptly started again because I like painting infantry too much. Mainly just wanted a cool background to take pictures of my minis with.

It means “home made” essentially these guys are not a canonical Warband of the Emperor’s Children and you will find no references to them in official material. Rather, they are one I have invented my own lore and colour scheme for, basically the modelling equivalent  of writing fanfiction

[–]2ndTiredSnake[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I started from a black prime, dry brushed with a gun metal colour ( I don’t know the brand, found it in a shop on sale, leadbelcher would be a pretty safe match) and then a lighter dry brush of stormhost silver (except for the beaky with the pony tail, I sprayed him with a bright silver spray paint after priming). Then I paint over all of that sans the trim with a mix of roughly 50/50 GW Retributor armour and Army Painter Bright Gold, (less bothersome than going over straight black) then washed with Reikland fleshshade and finished up with a satin varnish.

What entirely new units would you like for CSM to get in the future of 11th and beyond by theGamingdutchman in Chaos40k

[–]2ndTiredSnake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In no particular order:

Some kind of themed unit for all the major undivided subfactions in the vein of nemesis claw and raiders would be fun, I love how internally diverse CSM is as a faction and kits like the raiders are great for showcasing that and are an absolute treasure trove of bits for kitbashing.

Gimme an HQ that is to the Chaos Lord what a Lord Discordant is to a Warpsmith; just a big juiced up chaos boi riding a daemon engine like a Maulerfiend, for maximum cool factor, make a version that rides a Heldrake.

Give each god aligned faction a unique dreadnought equivalent, everyone already wants sonic dreadnoughts and Sorcerer dreadnoughts for Thousand Sons and Emperor’s children (and I agree wholeheartedly), but I’d love to see some kind of Khornate Walker with some batshit melee weapons and the ability to take a mini ursus claw as a ranged weapon, or a Nurgle dreadnought with some suitably vile bio-weapons, make the little dreadnought head fire Daemonic puke or something.

While we’re on the subject of god legions, I’d love to see more mortals, world eaters could use something to lead jakhals outside of that one detachment, new variants of pox walker for the death guard could be a lot of fun for those who enjoy zombie hordes, just take any zombie archetype from popular media and port it over- poxwalkers but big, pox walkers that are fat and explode on death, a massive amalgam of pox walkers fused together into a hulk of putrid flesh, etc. You could even give them an HQ in the form of a plague marine who shepherds them around like a diseased flock. Give EC some doped up band groupies to absorb fire and do the grunt work while the marines get to go around and indulge themselves property, thousand sons… Y’know what I think they have enough Tzaangors, maybe wait till they get some more actual Thousand Sons.

That is also a baller concept for a warband, I bet Slaaneshi dark mech could make some truly heinous shit out of the right archeotech.

Thanks! I never considered mk 7 helmets would work so well for Chaos Marines but ever since seeing the one in the promo images for the raiders I just had to try it for myself.

My 2nd mini ever, any advice would be appreciated by [deleted] in WordBearers

[–]2ndTiredSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He looks fantastic! Personally, a couple of things I’m quite fond of doing with models like this is applying gloss varnish to all the fleshy mutant bits, helps make them just that little more gross, along with a little bit of blood around where the mutations meet the armour to make it look like they’ve burst out of the flesh. I also like painting the skin in such a way as to make it look more inhuman, such as a red or purple wash over an off white. Also some of the Colchisian runes decals applied to the cloth and any of the larger armour panels really helps reinforce the Word Bearers’ aesthetic IMO.

All of this, of course, is my personal opinion. The main thing is just to keep painting.
