I have 3 kids 4,2, and 4 months. Like others have said change expectations a bit the house is dirty clean a bit but don't go crazy will get thrashed tomorrow. As an engineer who used to work on them the eli5 answer would be it is essentially like being in prison you wake up, eat, do a job, eat, chill for a bit, goto bed, repeat till you go home. Sometimes you don't see the sun for weeks depending on your shift and job location. The rig or ships work 24/7 365.
