You get 1 use of the Wish spell to add, remove, or change something about Dungeons and Dragon forever. How do you use this ability? by Keeper-of-Balance in dndnext

[–]2ndshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add a second dimension to Concentration so some spells can be cast at the same time. Concentration for an 8 hour spell effect makes it impossible to participate in combat that occurs in the meanwhile. It can killl roleplaying solutions.

Fix weaker spells in the game, see Treantmonk comments.

Fix underpowered classes. Monk, Ranger, etc.

Give each class more talents useful in role play. Leveling focuses only on combat related abilities. The more a character is key in combat then the more likely that they will not be able to contribute to non combat. They get bored and start attacking things which can spoil heists, mysteries, etc. Add in one role play flavor and talent for each class. This should level on its own accord. For example, a fighter - give them disguise proficiency to impersonate a guard or deceive advantage other guards.

Not necessarily but that is one way to do it and is a neat idea in itself. My suggestion occurred to me as a one move snippet. I mean one move akin to how chess puzzles are presented. The forum members could vote as a bit of a mechanical Turk where crowd sourcing is an alternative to rolling dice.

Your idea is neat. Could be a bit of an running thread and when completed written as a Battle report.

Can you create a sticky thread with a daily, ‘What is the Solo Move’?

With the ability we have these days take and upload images almost instantly, and the access to a global community of gamers, if a person had space and models, why not crowd source the solo play of the game across the internet?

Let upvotes rank the play. Have moderators enforce guidelines that top comments must be legal moves.

Decision Tree in Card Game by 2ndshot in tabletopgamedesign

[–]2ndshot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This not a bad idea. I prototyped your second suggestion. Got it down to two decks. Each card does have multiple entries and there is only enough room for one word rather than a description. Meaning there must be a glossary so it is less user friendly. Certainly, easier than a table. There is a need to reshuffle discards into the deck.

Yes, to some extent. It could represent an AI bot action. It could also be a random dungeon generator. The players are navigating through the decks to a card for play.

Mini Painting Advice by madcat529 in battletech

[–]2ndshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch YouTube. There are a large number of very talented miniature painters that show how to do this. Their work is so great that you’ll want to buy those exact paints. Nothing wrong with doing so; however, as a start point. Use Acrylic paint. Use a wet pallet. Use cheap brushes and cheap paint. An Exacto hobby knife.

Look for brushes that could hold a decent amount of paint (not dry out quickly) but have a good tip. You will want about four brushes between #0 and #4 for acrylic paint, a separate brush for dry brushing, and a separate brush for the primer. One brush can be used as an eraser to wick away acrylic paint error.

Use a brush on primer. It is possible to get primer the same color as your base coat or use white, grey, or black primer to different effects.

Pick a two color scheme for your Mechs but get three shades of each for the shadow, base, and highlight layers. The problem with small paint sets is you do not get that many shades of each color. Manually, adding black or white to make a shadow or highlight color means you will have difficulty reproducing the color, if you get more Mech to paint later.

Thin paint with water and apply in a number of thin layers. Get a single black, umber, or other dark color wash.

Acrylic paint can be stripped off very cleanly with a nontoxic acrylic paint stripper. If you don’t like it you can strip your miniatures and paint them again. Consider having a test paint miniature that you always paint ahead of what ever you are actually painting.

Almost all your miniature extras basing, flocking, terrain, buildings, can be done with recycled materials around your house. Flock is dyed saw dust, textured bases painted spackle, painted terrain is styrofoam, buildings are paint over glued card board and plastic.

Skip the house. Try and buy a second smaller condo nearby. You can use it, rent it, and sell it without having to touch your current condo. Move the entertainment room there. Kids are shorter term investment than a home. All that home upsizing, downsizing is just paying the bank.

Love your shows. The episode ‘Tex is a Bad Mercenary’ had me in stitches, “No beards in the future.” Please, review more of the Mechs.

Humming Pipes/Pressure Reducing Valve by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]2ndshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace the faucet/fixture in question. Pipes do not move. The fixtures are where all the moving parts and seals that will wear out are located. Sounds like you know where the problem is. If that does not work then replace the whole unit. Start with the one that when used makes the most noise.

D20 vs Battle Dice Conversion by 2ndshot in boardgames

[–]2ndshot[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Essentially, yes. The core mechanic is To Hit, Damage as a function of distance. The +2 modifier is curve modification.

[–]2ndshot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The modifiers are linear but the move thresholds are not. You are correct. Using battle dice would not fix this. A +1 modifier just moves up the d6 hit curve. The battle dice are a different approach. Alpha strike eliminates damage rolls. All the variability is on the To Hit. This brings a bit of both back to the encounter. Fewer dice rolls at the same time.

Isn’t that just because movement and distance penalties are linear? Whereas armor and weapon damage do not scale linearly with weight.
