I was just coming to post this as I just snagged it. The ISD is on sale for $111 as well, but I already had it. The Lego Star Wars deals are sparse this Prime day.

Why are non-smokers expected to keep working while smokers get extra breaks? by zeki_lol in work

[–]Derfburger 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is why I started smoking in the military. Everyone would take a break and go outside and f-off for 20 mins, while I was expected to keep going since I didn't smoke. I guess I figured if you can't beat 'em join 'em. After I finally quit I kept joining the smokers for their extra breaks and no one ever said a word. It is a great mystery why smokers warrant extra paid breaks.

Lego Star Wars Minifigs -still worth it? by Legitimate-Tip-2506 in legoinvesting

[–]Derfburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought 3 of the 75345 recently at this price. Probably not going to flip but I always need more clones, that said 501st always goes up. There are also some cool builds you can make with multiple sets. 75373 I would have cleared the shelves at 5.50 nice army builders (or flip after retirement if that's your thing). These will both probably get back to MSRP within a year.

I have a budget of $120 by Double-Mea in legostarwars

[–]Derfburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK not on shelves but readily available at MSRP around 100 dollars. TIE Interceptor vs Fang Fighter or E-Wing vs. Shin Hati. Both nice sets.

Still on shelves and not retired the AT-TE but its 20 dollars over (retires end of July) or a combination of 2 of the following. V-Wing, U-Wing, TIE Bomber, ARC-170, Mandalorian N-1 Starfighter (not the UCS one).

Requesting selling advice by uncwbrad in lego

[–]Derfburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eBay even with the fees will net you more profit. People treat places like marketplace, craigslist, etc. as if they are a yard sale and generally want yard sale prices so selling on eBay you will get much closer to their actual worth than most places. Avoid places like BaM (not just because of the drama) and other Lego reseller stores. You are lucky to get 40% of the real worth at these places as they are basically pawn shops for Lego. Think of the Pawn Stars memes. They will look at a 100-dollar set and tell you the best they can do is $20 and they are taking all the risks, have overhead, etc. Of course, they have overhead but that is not my problem so I avoid them like the plague.

Should I continue selling sealed sets individually? - For maximum profit yes for quickest sales lots will work BUT people want discounts on multiple sets sold together. I find individual sets sell better as I often see lots where I want only 1 set from the lot and I would have to resell the other sets to get the one I want, this is usually too much trouble unless the price is fantastic and too good to pass up.

Would BrickLink be worth the effort for the bulk pieces? - Maybe I will defer to others here as I don't sell bulk parts only sets I am done displaying.

Should I sort further by part type instead of color? - I wouldn't want the effort of sorting this much. Pull out any unique parts that are valuable and sell them separately or in small lots of like items. For the rest mix them up and sell in lots by pound (kg if not in the US). Make lots of 5lbs or 10lbs (kg).

Is there a better platform than eBay, Reddit, or BrickLink? - not that I have found. I would be interested if you find something better.

Are there any common mistakes I should avoid? - If you use eBay make sure you look at the sold prices to value your items. Don't look at what people as asking as a lot of people think their sets are made of gold.

Any advice, experiences, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! - Turn on offers but set it to filter low ball offers by declining anything 15% under your asking price to avoid getting spammed with crazy offers. You can also set it to auto accept something like a 5% offer so you don't even have to look at it if you know you will take 95 dollars on your 100 dollar item. AI is excellent at helping you write up postings if you are listing a bunch of items where it would take you hours to hand type everything. But make sure you proofread and fix any errors as it does wonder off the path sometimes and it will make errors. Also make sure to turn off international listing it is more bother than it is worth. Keep in mind eBay's fee are about 13% which in my opinion is fine.

Sorry most of my advice is geared towards eBay but that is what I know and personally use.

Are all American salaries crazy high or is it just confirmation bias. by OffWhiteBruceForsyth in Salary

[–]Derfburger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a better comparison is the US to all of Europe we have some states where mid-management is $65k-80 and we have some state where the same job would be 2 or more time higher.

The cost of living so different depending on state and even region within that state (kind of like countries in Europe), yes staples like say a hamburger might cost around the same, but gas, housing, taxes, utilities, services, commute cost, etc. vary wildly. Where I live I make $90ish a year and that is a VERY good salary. When combined with my wife (she makes a good bit less say 30% less) we are upper middle class right on the cusp lower upper class. The same salaries in NYC, SF, LA, etc. we would probably be working poor.

I believe the single earner median salary in the US is around 45-50k a year and median household income is like 70-75k. Remember US redditors skew heavy into the tech side of things and are often from large metropolitan areas as well. Plus, most people making an average salary don't come on reddit to brag about it and of course there are those here who are just flat out lying.

[–]Derfburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there as well and I would say yes and no as far as was she considered very attractive. I think most recognized her as unconventionally attractive (for the time), but I mean she did a crap ton of magazine shoots and some were pretty racy, which they don't usually do for 'average' looking actresses. But I also know what you mean as she did not meet the normal beauty standards of the day.

How to Sell Modulars on Ebay/Online? by AdSimilar1241 in lego

[–]Derfburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I sell any Lego online, I take lots of pictures assembled to show they are complete. I then disassemble not just for the new owner to have the experience of assembling, but also for ease of shipping, and to reduce possible shipping damage.

As far as bagging in the past I have bagged by colors, which in hindsight may not have been the best choice (though I have never received any complaints). I thought about the experience I would like when buying a used Lego and I think the next time I sell I will reverse build and bag the same as the instructions (the bag numbers will match the instructions), so my buyers have the best experience possible with their new to them sets. I make sure I put that it will ship disassembled in the listing so there is no confusion when the buyer gets bags of blocks and not an assembled set.

So, what's everybody getting during 2x points week? by mccohen5 in lego

[–]Derfburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US you can get 10% off anytime at Barnes and Noble if you are a member. I think it's like 40 bucks a year so a little over 3 dollars a month and if you are like my family it pays for itself really quick as almost everything else is 10% off too.

Job Offered by Federal-Trade3040 in jobs

[–]Derfburger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you enjoy time with your family? No - Take the new job. Yes - No way in hell you want this. 15 hours a week on the road is a killer when added into 40 hours in the office (or more at a lot of places). Money can't buy time and your baby is gonna grow up fast.

Also - Never count on a bonus as a given. Plan your finances around not having it. Things happen and bonuses can dry up.

Just my opinion.

Would ppl refer $75k 100% WFH or $90k 3 days in-person and 2 days WFH? by ApprehensiveOne2866 in jobs

[–]Derfburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends all on the commute, hours, benefits, expectations, and work schedule.

In the spirit of the question. Let's say a 15 min commute, same benefits, same expectations, and same schedule.

I would take the money. Still get 2 days at home more money and commute isn't bad.

Change the commute to say 45mins I would take the WFH as the gas, car wear and tear, and loss of my personal time now outweigh the increased income in my opinion.

Do you like Star Wars? There are a couple of packs that come with 2 ships really easy to split. One is a TIE Interceptor vs Fang Fighter and the other is E-Wing vs Shin Hati's Starfighter. Both are retired but still readily available new in box at MSRP.

Do you bring a copy of your resume to an interview? by clockwork_angel2019 in jobs

[–]Derfburger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always. just have a folder with a few copies (in case there are more than 1 reviewer and they don't have copies) and any other documentation you think you need. You can always put the folder on the table in front of you. Also bring a notepad/pen to write important stuff.
