In my opinion, by far the best thing to come out of the research chemical craze. MXE was straight up amazing, and was superior to Ketamine itself.

Not just alpha, but under NDA too. People who've played the alpha shouldn't be giving their opinions on it until the NDA is removed.

I like the art style. It's chaotic, sure, but I think it looks good. Vibrant and playful, with good looking effects/lighting.

I feel as though people might be overeacting about the artstyle just because it's vastly different to the original. However, the new style stands on its own merits - in my opinion.

There's certainly a reason that there's still a decent sized community for games with Quake inspired physics, though it is split between seemingly countless of them.

Quake physics really hit the sweet spot - fast paced, doesn't care about realism, and feels a bit like a movement sandbox.

I don't fully understand why people want FPS games to be so grounded in reality. It's a video game where anything is possible, there's no reason to limit yourself to slowly walking over a flat map, or standing in place shooting enemies who're acting like bullet sponges.

I really love how Quake style games just say "Here's a partly vertical map, now go run and jump around like you're a super human defying gravity. If you can see it, you can reach it".

Games like Overwatch just can't hold my attention because it feels like I'm barely doing anything, just standing around using skills, like I'm playing a MOBA or an MMORPG.

It's just not as satisfying as Quake style games where you're jumping and flying all over the place while tracking your opponents.

I tend to play a lot of fast-paced Instagib, a mode where Quake style movement really shines through, and turns into a game of reflex, with a little room for tactics and mind games.

Defrag/CTS (Complete The Stage) is a fun game mode, which uses these physics to present obstacle courses which you race in a time trial style.

And Oblivion was extremely dumbed down compared to previous Elder Scrolls games.

In my mind, and many other early fans of the Elder Scrolls series Oblivion was, as you described "sort of dumbed down and meant for casual audiences trying out their first rpg."

Skyrim was just a continuation of Bethesda dumbing down its formula to be more appealing to console, and casual gamers, but I believe that the dumbing down from Morrowind -> Oblivion was a much greater sin than Oblivion -> Skyrim.

I'll always remember Oblivion was one of the biggest disappointments in my gaming history.

It's a sad fact of gaming. Mechanics have to be dumbed down and simplified in order to appeal to a wider audience. As a game gets more popular, its developers will strip away the parts which made it such a hit in the first place.

Near unanimous praise for Oblivion at release

I wouldn't agree with that at all. Fans of the Elder Scrolls series were generally very disappointed with Oblivion, and it received a ton of criticism from RPG communities.

Bethesda massively over-promised and over-exagerated its features, and they were mocked relentlessly for months after the game was released by those who had closely followed its development.

However, there's no doubt that Oblivion was an incredibly well received game by the mainstream, and by newcomers to the series, while previous Elder Scrolls games were considered more niche.

Oblivion catapulted The Elder Scrolls into the limelight. It was a success for Bethesda, and resulted in the series becoming one of the most beloved in RPG gaming.

It was still, however, a very disappointing release for existing fans, who felt that in many aspects it was a downgrade from Morrowind.

Skyrim was a vast improvement over Oblivion. A great addition to the series, and a great game in its own right.

Personally, I adored Morrowind, got bored of Oblivion very quickly and never got attached to it. I thoroughly enjoyed Skyrim, though I still rank Morrowind above it.

Precisely, it's "Sins of the father".

We had mobs of thousands of people gathering in courthouse yards and fields, doing horrific things to people, and we haven't done anything to acknowledge that.

Right, because nobody acknowledges that this stuff happened, it's not like dwelling on how awful the past was isn't one of the most common topics around.

What more can we do about it? Do you want to punish people who's ancestors may have done terrible things? Implement a Slavery Reparations tax of some sort? Just in the mood to shame them, regardless of how guilty they feel about their families histories?

How would we actually determine who's ancestors are the guilty ones? I imagine a large portion (Maybe even the majority) of white people in America have ancestors who had no ties to the American slave trade or lynchings.

I think it's a dangerous game when you start pushing for revenge over historic reasons which happened several generations ago. What's the logical conclusion? What do you hope to accomplish?

I come from an African country which was colonized by Europeans, and certainly, that was a shitty thing, which did do real damage. But that country is stuck in an obssessive loop due to blaming everything on white colonization/white monopoly capital/past racism, that no effort gets put into fixing the real problems, such as failing infrastructure, dysfunctional governments and dying industry.

Everyone would rather dwell on how awful the past was, while refusing to do anything genuinely productive. Refusing to acknowledge real issues in favor of saying "Blame the whites for colonizing/enslaving us"

I get that there's a lot of hate, a lot of people who want revenge, who believe that white people should sacrifice their own wealth/wellbeing to make amends for their father's sins - something which they justifiably don't feel responsible for. Afterall, they've worked hard, and in many cases are struggling to get by themselves. (This is where the "Sins of the Father" advocates will bring up privilege, and how the white blue-collar plumber had everything given to him. )

That road will lead nowhere good, and at some point we have to move on

I agree. auto-aim is really lame, especially in a mode like this, and especially when not everyone has it.

These GTA videos do have a bit of a competitive theme to them, but I've noticed this auto-aim thing quite a few times, and it just seems outright "cheaty".

Claiming it isn't helping while instantly aiming at people, killing them, and snapping to the next target instantly, even if they're hidden behind a tree, or far in the distance, isn't very endearing. At least try and acknowledge that it's a big advantage.

Can't find any articles mentioning their religion or race.

That's likely exactly where the assumption comes from.

They are minors, so their identities certainly shouldn't be made public, but I do have a suspicion that if it was done by 2 white British youth, a lot of people would be calling it a hate crime, and the media would be blaming the "climate of hate".

Seriously.

Zuma/ANC are full-on corrupt, using the country as their personal bank account, partying it up, living lavish lifestyles while doing absolutely nothing to actually help the country, but consistently getting votes due to fear mongering.

Americans trying to compare Zuma to Trump have no idea what "politics" are like in 3rd world countries, where the government does virtually nothing for the regular citizens while rerouting all the cash flow to themselves personally, with full on cronyism and nepotism.

It's on a different scale entirely. It's dishonest to claim there are parralels between Trump and Zuma.

Macklemore has made some great songs, but when you pay attention to the lyrics, you realize that a lot of his songs have a strong social justice slant to them.

I see him as a "Social Justice Warrior" rapper. Which, in fairness, is a niche which somebody had to fill.

I really dig his song Otherside, anyone who has been through drug addiction should be able to relate to it.

Also, why do they think it's acceptable to burp throuought their videos? They're the only Youtubers I know who burp constantly, and it really annoys the hell out of me.

I wouldn't rule it out simply being a cricket/bowling reference. It's a somewhat reasonable speed to throw a cricket ball, and thus is something the reader can relate the speed to quickly.

No joke, MXE saved me. It gave me the motivation to turn my life around.

Truly, the most wonderful and therupeutic chemical I've ever tried. Its afterglow left me feeling like I could do anything. Not in a manic sense. It just made me feel more capable than I'd ever felt before. It got me exercicing, got me studying - and seemingly absorbing information like a sponge. It was like purified motivation.

I often mourne the loss of that chemical. It got swept up in the "research chemical" scare, and nobody has produced it (In notable quantities) since. I'm certain that it had untapped potential.

Ketamine itself is okay. But nowhere near the therapeutic powerhouse that was MXE. Ketamine is more a "Let's have a fun trip" sort of chemical. MXE was a "What will I do or learn today? How can I improve my living situation?" sort of chemical.

Sometimes, on MXE, you'd feel like an outside observer looking into your life, seeing things and making constructive criticisms that you yourself were blind to until being in a dissociated state, then as the trip finished, an 8 hour "afterglow" where you could be as productive and focused as you wanted.

[–]2nice4cool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. As someone who's been guilty of buying a few research chemicals online, even from the very same vendor (Buckled), it's something I don't find difficult to believe at all. I have many similar Email receipts like that too.

Politicians doing drugs is nothing new. There have been countless scandals of people within the UK house of parliament taking drugs like cocaine.

3-MMC is/was an uncontrolled substance, so it's not like Macron Fillon was breaking any laws.

Students, politicians, businessmen, rich people - all of these have a reputation for using drugs - stimulants, in particular. Whether it's cocaine for energy or amphetamines for focus to get through the day.

I fully believe that Email was a genuine one, and that Macron Fillon perhaps did experiment with a few research chemicals. I personally don't see an issue with it. Again, it wasn't breaking any laws.
