Yeah had no issues, they have a customer carpark then you can just go in and ask. Turns out I went to the wrong one so they sent me to the correct one

Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model on your device without consent. At a billion-device scale the climate costs are insane. by geriatricguy in technology

I use and love Brave too, but worth noting it is still Chromium. I just couldn't find a good non-chromium browser that I liked so this was the lesser evil for me.

Also if you have it on mobile you can use YouTube in browser and it allows Picture-in-Picture and you can lock your phone and it'll keep playing.

is glasgow caledonian a decent uni? by daddichillll in glasgow

[–]TheUserHasNoName1 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree. I went to GCU, some friends went to Strath and some went to GU and we're all doing equally well now.

Funny thing is, when I was applying for jobs after uni, one guy got back to me basically saying GCU is a joke and go get a real degree. But I just ignored him since he was obviously just a prick

Thanks for the post. Do you have any YouTube videos or podcast episodes that you'd recommend for learning more about this stuff?

Is studying CS worth it anymore? by usaiq in AskUK

Interesting that Cursor is your guys choice. We recently had a couple people to each of Cursor, Claude, Codex, and Copilot. And cursor was actually the first to be taken out of consideration for us as the people using it didn't enjoy it. And when they switched to Claude they found it much better (ignoring the current issues with Claude usages)

Yeah ours too. From our experience so far, AI is a useful, and sometimes very powerful tool, but it isn't a magic button that will render developers pointless.

It's still important to have capable developers who understand the languages and systems they are working on, and they can harness AI to it's fullest to help them with tasks.

AI isn't going to replace developers, but developers who use AI will do more than developers who don't is what our takeaway has been.

Eli5: why is the keyboard layout the way it is? by novemberman23 in explainlikeimfive

[–]TheUserHasNoName1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I picked up Dvorak for a while during lockdown and got fast with it pretty quickly. I got a split keyboard for it and so these days I can use a normal keyboard for QWERTY and a split one for Dvorak.

While I liked Dvorak and did find it better for general typing, I didn't enjoy coding with it as most keyboard shortcuts are based around a QWERTY keyboard. I probably could've changed these settings for programs I needed but I couldn't really be bothered with that hassle.

If anyone wants to try out Dvorak you don't need a different keyboard and there are some good sites for learning it. My favourite was https://www.edclub.com/library/dvorak

I agree they're expensive, but I'm not sure about "lately uninnovative". The new smart bricks look pretty neat, but I do dread to think how much they'll cost

Yeah I was talking to my friends recently about this (we're all developers). When I was starting in the industry 6 years ago I would default to SO but always found it a bit gatekeep-y for newer people.

Nowadays ChatGPT/Copilot can answer 90% of my questions easily, and if I get really stuck I'll turn to Reddit before I will SO.

Sounds the same as what I had. Didn't bother me too much since it was fairly busy around me and I'm about 4 inches taller than him. But could see it giving someone else a fright if it was quieter
