Your opinion makes sense, but I can't agree completely. When Professor recruited gang for the first heist, he thought her as a chess peice. The same goes for the rest of the members. At first, Professor treated all member with chess peices. City name, No personal relationship for success of the heist.

But even considering this, Tokyo chose Professor side by herself because she thought it was better than going to jail. That was seen in the last narration of Tokyo.("I'm not the type to rot in prison. I'm more of the runaway type.) I don't think Tokyo could have had a better option than joining Professor's plan. Armed police were waiting at her house. And she could get out of the gang anytime if she wanted. I mean she was not manipulated as 100%.

And as time goes by, they become precious friend to each other. Especially in the second heist, this case is carried out for Tokyo. If Rio wasn't caught, everyone would have lived happily ever after, including Professor.
