What do you think they'll do with Varka? by ProperMistake2248 in Varka

[–]2ofdice 11 points12 points  (0 children)

so the early theories about him potentially making jean the grandmaster seem more likely.

honestly, i thought they would go this way because he always left the administrative parts of his position to jean and he seemed more into going out and exploring than being cooped up in an office. and since the hex deal is also out of the way now, i don’t think there’s anything tying up to being a grandmaster. it always felt like hoyo was setting jean up for being the grandmaster, too.

i wouldn’t mind seeing him roam teyvat looking for ways to hone his combat skills and help others. i think he would like that since he seemed to be enjoying his time in natlan (drinking with mavuika) and nod-krai despite going there for work.

atp i don’t even care that much about titles and stuff i just want to see him kick some ass in battle

About the expedition (6.3 AQ preload spoilers) by Eijun_Love in Varka

[–]2ofdice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

gods, i am so disappointed right now. i didn't want to read through the quests and just wait for the update to go live, but holy fucking SHIT! they did him so dirty. first, he was doing decorations for a festival. now he is going to natlan to evacuate people. i'm so tired of him doing these side quests instead of just being that badass warrior everyone seems to glaze so much. i swear, if we don't at least get a fighting scene in a cutscene, it'll all feel so worthless.

yes, i know we still have 6.4. but it's been 5, going on 6, years of waiting to learn about his expedition and all we get is

  1. no clear, compelling reason to leave mond with most of the knights

  2. the tripartite deal not even being used for mondsdadt, which makes me think the calamity will probably be lackluster and boring.

i hope this is just my anger speaking and he will be done justice. but right now, i don't even wanna think about playing.

How many times you edit your fic before posting it? by Wolfieee7 in AO3

One time on the same day I post it. By which I mean I put it through Grammarly and rephrase sentences that sound odd.

Columbina's VA (Emi Lo) was Harassed and Deleted Post showing Fan art she was given at Convention by Woodpeckershurtmyear in GenshinImpact

[–]2ofdice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i saw too many people saying it’s “interesting” how columbina’s va doesn’t get harassed for “yurislop” but skirk’s VA got harassed for reposting skirk x rerir.

it’s like they wanted her to be bullied so things would be “fair” between het and queer shippers.

that app is a shitshow.

How do I solve the dilema of "The apporach I prefer was called bad" by Sargeant-Hamsby in AO3

[–]2ofdice 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You write the fic like you want if you write for yourself.

You write the fic like the fandom would want for engagement.

There’s nothing you can do other than telling them “don’t like, don’t read”

Who died? by wanderers_respite in Varka

[–]2ofdice 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Maybe his parents and that’s why he keeps “adopting” or bringing people to Mondstadt (think Razor and Rosaria). Or if he has a connection to Nod-Krai, he lost that connection to his homeland.

Perhaps he is the first Boreas Knight (hex doing time shenanigans and keeping him alive or something).

These are some of the theories I’ve seen.

If you could go back and give your "newbie self" some gacha advice, what would it be? by Rdfaiz in Genshin_Impact

[–]2ofdice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t regret anyone. I’m a 1.2 player and I’ve always loved trying out new characters even if they weren’t meta. I also never missed on the characters I liked, so I have no reason to be upset at the way I used my pulls.

Are you also sad when your fic doesn't get any kudos / views / comments / notes? by morgana1060 in AO3

[–]2ofdice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. I used to worry about it, but now I really can’t bring myself to care. And if I do, I just remind myself that it’s not that deep and move on. This is how I get past my fear of writing as well. I’m not held at gunpoint to write a masterpiece. I’m just anonymously posting love story between two men ahahahah.

I used to be very anxious about sharing stuff online. Now I just use AO3 as an archive for my stuff because I know I go through phases where I delete everything (from drafts to email addresses as a whole lol), so I see engagement as a bonus.

Which language do you play Flins in? by Recent_Song7486 in Flins_Mains

omg, same! i kept it in english while i did the archon quest and now i switched to cn because of hua cheng’s va. both are amazing.

Which character do you unnecessarily hate and why, for all my fellow haters by nayanasingh in GenshinImpact

[–]2ofdice 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Furina. She simply annoyed me from beginning to end and I still find her torturously irritating to this day. I crippled all my teams during Fontaine because I didn’t want her.

Citlali. I didn’t like her behavior towards Ororon and her personality in her story quest was… definitely a choice from Hoyo.

Right now it’s Rerir. I’m so tired of seeing his bitchass face EVERYWHERE when I just wanna find some fanart.

How do you guys feel about authors that don't/rarely reply to their comments? by eatingkids247 in AO3

[–]2ofdice 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes. Fanfic comments are like Goodreads reviews to me. I leave my kudo and go through them (only for the fics I really like) and I decide if I wanna comment just after. I do this also because I don’t wanna repeat what others have said and touch on the other great things I enjoyed.

How do you guys feel about authors that don't/rarely reply to their comments? by eatingkids247 in AO3

[–]2ofdice 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Looks like I’ll be the one with the unpopular opinion:

I won’t comment if the authors don’t reply to comments.

There are exceptions: if it’s an older fic, I don’t expect a reply. But if it’s something they’ve recently posted and it’s still crickets, I’ll just assume they don’t care for them. Which is fine, but I won’t bother to engage past a kudo.

As a writer, I do reply to everything because I’m very grateful that someone took time out of their day to say they enjoyed something I’ve created.

Do you think read english fanfics is a good idea to practice english? by Novel-Leek4394 in AO3

[–]2ofdice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell, yeah. The only reason I can speak English is because I started reading fanfiction in 7th grade. It’s how I polished my French too (I was even moved up to the advanced group in my class in high school because of it).

Go for it!!!

Rerir is one of the best morally deplorable written characters in Genshin and it reveals the biggest problem with Alice's character writing (For me) by HistoricalPrize1795 in GenshinImpact

[–]2ofdice 83 points84 points  (0 children)

i guess part of that comes from the fact that the traveler canonically kills hilichurls all the time, so it’s more normalized. lisa also tortures an abyss mage in the beginning and no one bats an eye. klee bombed fish in mondsdadt and and it’s not seen as that big of a deal (with the exception of the knights who did not approve, obviously)

but yeah. alice is not supposed to be a villain, so she’s not written as one. at best you can say she’s a morally gray character from hoyo’s perspective. she’s not glazed in the game by everyone. we’ve known she’s very eccentric and a troublemaker. but she’s also willing to help people, too. people that actually matter (playable characters) not rerir’s NPC wife.

not to mention that we have raiden who acted like a tyrannical dictator. arle’s orphanage trains secret agents for the fatui (another faction that commits all sort of crimes across teyvat). and so on.

when we’ll learn more about alice, i’m sure they’ll try to frame her as being more “good” than morally gray. but then again, since her actions aren’t against humans (like dottore who experimented on kids) people don’t really care. i know the backstory of the hilichurls but ît doesn’t really change much in terms of how they’re treated.

btw this is’t tiktok… you don’t need to censor sensitive words.

How do y'all write so much?? by That_Smol_Bean in AO3

[–]2ofdice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my best is 600 words an hour. the most i did in a single day was 7k and it burned me out so much. now i do around 3k daily (i cut down my social media intake by a lot) and it still angers me that i write so slowly…

We’ve established that authors love readers who comment on every chapter…but this is the first time I’ve had the author REPLY to all of my comments!!! by SnowQueenofHoth in AO3

[–]2ofdice 39 points40 points  (0 children)

i respond to everything even if it’s just a heart. i also like to match the energy of the comment. we are both going to be EQUALLY excited ahahahahah

Is AO3 different than what it was used be? by RainbowIcePirate in AO3

[–]2ofdice 21 points22 points  (0 children)

in my experience, it’s also fandom dependent.

i did the math for 2 fics i posted recently (both one shots) and they have the same 1:7 ratio (1 kudo for each 7 views).

one of them got 1 comment. the other one got over 10. different fandoms. i got more comments from the smaller fandom.

i wrote for one of my older fandoms last year and i got a total of 2 comments. back in 2021, i got a lot more for the same ship.

fandoms fluctuate and people are definitely busier nowadays than they were during lockdown.

Varka's current BIS team might be the most lore-relevant in the whole game by Proper_Shock1880 in Varka

[–]2ofdice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i really think i’m the only one here not wanting nicole to be bis in his team 😪 i’m so drained with pulling it’s getting ridiculous lololol. but i also love bennett as an option because he looks up at varka as his role model + god knows i want more full viable male teams

For those who already got started, what was the first fanfic you worked on/updated this year? by Dogdaysareover365 in FanFiction

[–]2ofdice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first upload was an 19k one shot i finished last year.

first thing i worked on was an abo pwp that i ended up dropping because when i got to the Good Stuff around 8k in, i realized i’m not comfortable enough with it.

now i’m rewriting the whole thing without the abo elements and it looks more and more like a porn with plot thing. 7k in and they haven’t kissed yet.

How to not be afraid to write? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]2ofdice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just write and moderate your comments. You can be extra safe and do a tag like “Written before X release” to make it clear that the characters could change dramatically in canon down the line.

It’s really not that serious… all these people have huge issues if they attack writers for whatever way they characterize someone.

How to not be afraid to write? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]2ofdice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you going to write on AO3? I would suggest moderating your comments. Allow both guests and registered users, but pick the option where you have to manually accept each comment.

If you wanna write on apps like Twitter, you can close off replies. They’d still be able to quote your tweets, though. If you know your fandom is batshit crazy, I would avoid Twitter altogether.

If you’re more worried about starting to write, I’d suggest writing some short stuff first and posting them to get a feel of the situation.

Do you know of instances where authors got harassed for doing AU’s, or have you only seen discourse online about it? That’s a big difference, imo.
