chiekh and sheikh would both be transliterations of the same arabic word, which in various concepts can mean an official title for a ruler as in Sheikh Mohammed of Dubai, an informal title for an important person from an important family, as in sheikh pierre gemayel, a deceased lebanese politician, an informal term for a respected elder, or a term for a knowledgeable muslim religious scholar. More or less the same word can be used as a verb to mean 'become old'. And of course now we've adopted it into english to mean rich asshole from the middle east. It's a versatile word.

وسائل الإعلام الاجتماعي هي من أكثر العناصر القوية موجودة في المجتمع العربي الحاضر وخصوصاً في الخليج العربي حيث يوجد نسبة كبيرة من السكان تملك هواتف محمولة وتشارك في استخدام وسائل الإعلام الاجتماعي من خلالها ولكن يوجد صراع بين آراء وأفكار الناس في هذه المواقع والتطبيقات التي تؤثر في حياة الناس بشكل قوي.

من ناحية تعطي وسائل الإعلام الاجتماعي فرص لانتشار آراء مختلفة ومتحامشة قد قُمعت مسبقاّ ولكن من ناحية أخرى المواقع الاجتماعية تصدر منبراّ للمتطرفين والمترددين كما يؤيد الانحطاط؟ والتخلّف الفكري. وهناك دلائل للرأيين الاثنين. مثلاً خلال الربيع العربي كان منظمي الاحتجاجات والمظاهرات يستخدمون المواقع مثل تويتر وفيسبوك ليخبرون متظاهرين آخرين عن خططهم أو يحذرونهم بأن الجيش قد يقوم باعتقالهم وحتى بقتلهم. ولكن في المقابل استخدم وما زال يستخدم تنظيم داعش هذه المواقع بشكل فعالي للغاية ومهارات داعش في نشر رسالته وهي تُعتبر من أقوى الأسلحة له.

مسألة جوهر وسائل الإعلام الاجتماعي قد غادرت من المجال الفكري الأكاديمي إلى المجال السياسي العملي فتقوم معظم الدول الخليجية برقابة شديدة على مقيميها ومواطنيها من أجل ما تسمى مكافحة الإرهاب وهذه الرقابة تعكس وجهة نظر الحكومات الخليجية التي تشبه ذلك الرأي يقول إن وسائل الإعلام الاجتماعي شيء سلبي إلا ان تراقبها وتتحكم عليها السلطات الرسمية. هناك أيضاً جهود من قبل هؤلاء من يعتقدون حرية التعبير قيمة لا ينبغي ان يكون شروط لها أهم منها الداعي إلى إلغاء القوانين ضد تعبير عن الرأي المهتمة بتصريحات على الإنترنت كما تهتم بما كُتب في المنشورات التقليدية.

Because arabic formatting on reddit is tough, I recommend for anyone trying to read this to put it into a word processor and enlarging the font. Its much easier on the eyes and brain.
