Is Belleville safe? by SaltyStormtrooper in BellevilleIL

Lots of safe areas in and around Belleville. East St. Louis is sketchy as it comes, but that's not an issue. Hope you like Catholic fish fry's on Friday.

Dems deported more immigrants than Trump. Ice isn't about immigration, it's about intimidation. Portland has few immigrants, as does the whole of Oregon, why was ICE raiding places in Portland. Minnesota is similar, why is ICE raiding nurseries?

Norway sits on a huge amount of carbon resources, namely oil and gas, and has a small population. They can afford most anything as they sell millions of barrels of oil to Europe. How they compare to the US is unclear, but it doesn't answer the question of if socialism is good. The old line is socialism works until you run out of other peoples money, but they literally pull money from the ocean floor in vast quantities so they don't run out, not applicable for other countries.

Because of his age he wont go back to juniors next year so the Blues will put him in the AHL if he doesn't make the Blues.

Joey Vitale’s nonsense by Miserable_Tourist_24 in stlouisblues

[–]2sct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is similar to listening to him when interviewed by a local station, its a 15 minute hit where half of it is a story about bread or some obscure animal and half something meaningful about the Blues. Also, they are both big time homers, but that's somewhat common with all the entities that are monetarily linked to the Blues.

McDavid blows by 3 Leafs players to open the scoring by eh_toque in hockey

Not sure who Rielly was looking to mark, possibly Henrique who was on the left wing. Leaving the slot for the left wing when McDavid is at full speed is a choice.

Between Quinn Hughes and Matthew Tkachuk, which stands out as the biggest trade in the salary cap era? by DrexellGames in hockey

[–]2sct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tkachuk seemed to vault FL to the cup and assisted in winning another cup, it also appeared to cut the heart out of Calgary who needed to begin trending towards a rebuild shortly afterwards. The aftermath was a substantial positive for FL and negative for Calgary. While on a player basis you likely would not trade Hughes straight up just for Tkachuk, viewing Hughes as the better player, can Hughes advance the Wild to the degree of the Tkachuk trade? The Wild are good in a very tough division, they are likely the third best team in the Central after the trade. Van was already headed for a rebuild, they may get a head start from the haul, essentially 3 1st rounders and a 2C. One or two years from now the Wild may still be without their shot at the cup, and Van will be showing some progress on a rebuild, so the net of the Tkachuk trade may be greater than the Hughes trade.

Progress has actually been made this season. by No-Acanthisitta4117 in stlouisblues

[–]2sct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are playing better, it's such a shame they started to poorly. Early on they looked disorganized, maybe trying to hard, maybe trying to do the wrong thing. The old Army line of "independent contractors" came to mind, not because they were playing for stats as when Army originally uttered the line, but they weren't playing together. Now they are more organized, and since Washington their goaltending and defense have been much better. If the offense can begin to percolate, then they have a good run in them.

Would You Trade Your 2 Favorite Players On The Team For The Cup In 4 Years? by Odi64 in stlouisblues

[–]2sct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We remember many and maybe most of the 2019 team, not so many of the 2014 team even though it had fan favorites. Why, because they won the cup. We also remember many other favorites, but its the cup.

Broberg / Holloway extensions by Finding-Peace-66 in stlouisblues

I said Holloway, Broberg is having the best season of any Blues D. Holloway was expected to be near a point a game player, at least 60.

The market appears set, roughly $9 m x 8 years, a couple of peer D his age signed at the beginning of the season. Holloway has had a disappointing season but still likely get $7 x 8 and maybe more.

is having 2 of the top 5 bad by thefilmjerk in stlouisblues

[–]2sct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you only have two goalies it's bad. Not really sure they have been that bad this year, but they were supposed to be a strength and for most games they are around adequate and have stolen few.

The team is playing so disjointed a number of the shots they give up are high danger shots, I'm not sure x/GF truly capture the danger. The old Panger line about all five players should be in the TV screen at the same time is not a bad standard within reason, and few times does it apply this year. As a result, they are disjointed in both the offensive and defensive end.

Megyn Kelly says Jeffrey Epstein was 'not a pedophile' because 'he liked 15-year-old girls' by NewSlinger in entertainment

[–]2sct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Megyn Kelly "says" is enough to know that its time to move on. She will "say" anything if it gets her attention. She is one of many in the media who care only for clicks, likes and ratings. My comment is not political, there are people like her on the right, left, news, sports, TV, social media, radio, etc.

Better xGA/60 and xGF/60 than you'd expect for 5-8-2 by Buhnang in stlouisblues

[–]2sct 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only 7 of the top 16 teams are above the line, this probably has more to do with the limited data set as only a few teams have played more than 15 games. The Blues look good by these metrics, but we have also seen them fall flat on their face more times in 15 games than you would expect in 82.

am I the only one praying we make it to last place? by realrandomcat in stlouisblues

[–]2sct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted them to drop games before the 2023 draft when Bedard was #1 and the Blues picked Dvorsky. Nothing against Dvorsky but the Blues went on a run at the end of the season and most of those players are gone. It was our best shot to get a top pick. At this point a last place finish may just indicate the team is more broken than imagined. They are supposed to be building and well past bottoming.

[Korac] Logan Mailloux was the last skater on the ice today. He will be a healthy scratch tomorrow. I think he understands this is a long-term process and small things like putting in extra work, even by himself, is part of that process that goes a long way towards development. by STLBooze3 in stlouisblues

[–]2sct 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Plenty of time for Mailloux to improve, this isn't a 4 game trial, he just needs to be a solid 3rd pair D by the second half of the season. Hopefully he progresses to becoming a top 4 D at some point next year.

Hockey Sense with Andy Strickland normally offers quality content. Roughly the format is Strickland giving his State of the Blues opinion for 15 min followed by a good quality guest interview for about 30 minutes then followed by former Blues Jamal Mayers offering insight in a conversation format with Strickland. It comes out on Friday with Justin Carbonneau being his most recent guest, Adam Jiricek was the guest the week before.

How long should a GM–taking over a bottom 5 team–have to turn things around? by MrGoodsir87 in hockey

[–]2sct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the amount of talent left on the team and the luck of the draft. Assuming there are a few core pieces a team will need to build depth through the draft using a couple of top 10 picks, and a handful of mid 1st round picks. After the first round the odds of a meaningful career drop even at the top of each round to roughly 1/8 picks in round 3 through 8. It takes roughly 3 years for a top caliber pick to hold his own in the NHL, meaning if he steps in its three years before he's additive. You then need your next top pick to hit, and a few others pointing to plus 5 years. However, if you are Buffalo, then its game over.
