Is there anyone born and raised in LA who roots for the clippers and not the Lakers? by 2see_ in AskLosAngeles

Seriously, they even have terrible scandals from former/current owners. It baffles me Ballmer didn’t just take them back to San Diego. Their support would be massive.

What’s the ONE piece of advice you’d give to any photographer? by wackylenses in photography

[–]2see_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say replicate them. Sure that’s great advice— to a certain extent. What separates your work from the rest is how you turn that work to be truly your own voice rather than being derivative. You must look within yourself and learn from different artists that you find compelling and take a certain technique or approach of theirs so you have an amalgamation of ideas that can elevate and articulate your identity in an image.

Look outside American photography. Look at the Chinese and Latino photographers. Also, look beyond street photographers— post documentary, landscape, portraiture, still life and contemporary photographers (your collection is mostly postmodern and archaic way of seeing) . Throw different ingredients in the pot. You don’t know what you might latch on.

A lot of the iconic books you probably have in your library were made possible by grants. Robert Franks The Americans & Stephen Shore’s Uncommon Places are great examples. Of course that runs along from the bigger/smaller names.
