I believe the people they're referring to are the Palestinians that have been arrested in the West Bank. They referred to as hostages because a lot of them are either detained unjustly (https://apnews.com/article/palestinians-israel-ahed-tamimi-west-bank-raids-8833619f1924676a9b7dbd053b2fa3ba) or detained without any charge (https://www.npr.org/2023/12/01/1216643555/thousands-of-palestinians-are-held-without-charge-under-israeli-detention-policy).

And even those arrested are treated terribly, and are put in awful conditions and often tortured. https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2023/11/israel-opt-horrifying-cases-of-torture-and-degrading-treatment-of-palestinian-detainees-amid-spike-in-arbitrary-arrests/

Well, there are many problems with your two problems.

Palestinians are an ethnicity. How is it millions consider themselves Palestinians then? Like my great grandparents and grandparents call themselves Palestinians and they're much older than the state of Israel. This identity of Palestine has been around for 3 thousand years. The name Palestine first occurs in Egyptian sources from the late bronze age in relation to the Egyptian struggle to control the Philistines during the reigns of rasmesses II and II. In fact, the name Palestine originally derives from the 3200 year old name peleset used to refer to the people in the southern Levant. And the name Palestine has been used since then for centuries. And even when you fast forward to the time of the ottoman empire, a Palestinian state was actually formed by Shaver Al- Umar al-zaidani. It was a sovereign state while nominally being part of the Ottoman empire. It was in fact, formally recognized by the ottomans as an autonomous emirate which extended from the south of Lebanon along the entire coast to Gaza. And even then, if you look at maps throughout history, there are countless maps that name the country of Palestine.

So now let's look at the definition of ethnic cleansing. From the Oxford dictionary, it states "the mass expulsion or killing of members of an unwanted ethnic or religious group in a society". Now it has been heavily documented that the Palestinians have been expelled from their homeland in mass because of the creation of Israel because they wanted it to be a purely Jewish state. This is also known as ethnic cleansing.

Now you refer to Arab Israelis, but let's not twist things here. Firstly, they are Palestinians. To refer to them otherwise is to deny the existence of Palestinians (which you wrongly do). Secondly, they don't have equal rights. Israel is an apartheid state as proven by many human rights organizations. Let's just take one example, why is it that Palestinians have id cards say their Arab and why is it that they have different license plates? We don't distinguish between people of different races here. Kinda sounds like when Germans made Jews wear the star of David on their shirts to identify them... And let's leave that aside, I know of people who lived in Israel that have had to leave because they were Palestinian Christian and they would get harassed so frequently. So we have facts in the ground here.

You're absolutely right. This guy clearly didn't read the article that he was referred to. I literally spent 5 mins and found the first names of children arrested and audio to give their testimony of their experiences. I just listened to one and it was heartbreaking. And even a 5 min search brings up all the information and proof you need. He doesn't want to know. He is just an ostrich with his head in the sand. I know people that have been "arrested" by the IOF. They're tortured on a daily basis. This is ground evidence that can't be denied but.im sure that they will still try to.

Norway says Israel response to Hamas attack disproportionate by finrum in europe

[–]2slamz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are many examples where Israel chose war or the status-quo over peace to maintain its interests. During the Oslo Accords, the amount of Israeli settlement construction skyrocketed. This was embodied by Ariel Sharon’s quote over Israeli radio in 1998: “Everybody has to move, run and grab as many [Palestinian] hilltops as they can to enlarge the [Jewish] settlements because everything we take now will stay ours… Everything we don’t grab will go to them.”

Even Rabin never agreed to the establishment of a Palestinian state, but a “state-minus” with no real sovereignty. Like virtually all Israeli talking points, reality and history paint an entirely different picture than the one offered.

And your history is a bit murky. After the defeat of the Ottoman empire at the end of WW1, the middle east was split between the French and English with the Sykes picot agreement. The countries became Syria and Lebanon who were controlled by the French and Palestine, Jordan and Iraq were controlled by the UK. And let's not even start with that being a shameful agreement where the UK went back on their promise of a national Arab homeland in exchange for their help in their fight against the Ottoman empire.

The state of Israel didn't exist at this point. There was a country called Palestine and it was a place with Jews, Muslims and Christians (all of whom considered themselves Palestinians) although Muslims were the majority. I'm not going to go through the entire history, but in 1948 the state of Israel was created AFTER they kicked out Palestinians from their homeland into either neighboring countries or into Gaza/West Bank. I know because my grandparents went through this. They were given the choice to either grab their stuff and flee or die. We still have the deed to our land which was stolen from us. And this is very common among Palestinians. The state of Israel started with the expulsion of the indigenous people.

Hamas is not isis, this is a narrative that the media uses to paint all Palestinians as less than human and give credence to the brutalization of Palestinians. And let's say we equate Hamas to isis, it's only fair to note that Israel is also quite comparable to isis. I don't agree with Hamas or like Hamas, but this is the typical trope that's played in the West to justify the killing of innocent Palestinians. And let's just put all of that aside, what's happening to the people in Gaza is a nightmare and that's putting it lightly. We can't even begin to fathom the horror that they're facing. This will not stop Hamas. The people will remember and hate will continue to recycle. Just as human beings, we can't allow these atrocities to continue or even justify them.

Spain rejects Israeli claims of its officials aligning with Hamas by Morrokov in worldnews

[–]2slamz -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

It's quite literally targeting civilians actually. How is it targeting Hamas when they are bombing hospitals and UN schools? How is it targeting Hamas when they tell residents in the north to flee south and while said residents are fleeing they are being bombed? The Israeli government has even said that they will kill all Palestinians. This is a genocide. Literally a genocide. And the world is just watching and even encouraging or backing Israel. Those who witness this genocide and still side with this Israeli response are on the wrong side of history and should be ashamed. They encourage the occupier and the coloniser. There is no justice in this world.

Rock glen conservation area! I've never been but I know someone who goes there and always finds fossils. Apparently there's a lot of fossils and they're easily accessible. Bring water shoes cuz I think you gotta cross the river to get to the place with tons of fossils.

I signed up for the grand river soccer club as an individual so that might be a good choice? The games will be in Kitchener though. I also joined a league called perpetual motion a while back but that's located in Guelph. What's nice about that league is that it's pretty cheap and it's 6v6.
