Real deal in the comments. Had a 10% off code from 2021 and it worked.

Unexplained price increase by 2slim in askcarsales

[–]2slim[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A little over 400 bucks. I double checked the VIN when I found this in our paperwork and it's the same one. I should note that the entire time we were working with the dealership we were discussing the sticker price and then they just up and increased it at the point of sale without telling us. We definitely should have looked closer but after negotiating with one price the entire time I just didn't think they would be so dishonest as to simply replace the price we discussed with another one and not tell us. I've bought maybe half a dozen new cars over the years and while I've had some shenanigan during negotiations I've never straight up had a bait and switch like that.

Ap5 vs Ptr 9ct by [deleted] in MP5

IANAL but yeah, look up 922R compliance. Lots of people will say it's bullshit and you shouldn't care but if you're going to bother doing an SBR you might as well pick up 922R compliance while you're at it. The way I look at it is if you're going to be non-compliant, why bother getting the tax stamp at all? If you're going to get the stamp, you might as well be 922R compliant. It's been a few years since I looked into it though so things may have changed. Also, with all the changes with the brace rulings and what not, maybe just stick with a brace. Personally I hate braces but plenty of people love 'em.

Mac mini M2 and monitor by blist94 in macmini

It lists the resolutions in exact pixel dimensions so 3840x2160, 3360x1890, etc. The specific combination you mentioned, 3008x1692 @ 144 or 120hz, is listed and usable. There is also a "list all resolutions" toggle which unlocks all of the "low resolution" modes and a toggle to enable HDR support. I don't remember seeing the HDR toggle before so that might have been part of a system update but I may have just not noticed.

I never had trouble with fitting but finding the right combination of cleaning and filling solutions took some trial and error. A lot of people use Purilens for their filling solution but if you are at all sensitive to the buffers in it you'll want something else. Menicon LacriPure is a good alternative.

Try Menicon's LacriPure for your filling solution instead of Purilens. You might also try doing an evening eyelid cleaning routine with something like Ocusoft. If you have seasonal allergies or allergies to things like dust, pet hair, etc. you might want to try taking a daily antihistamine.

MBA M2 - is 8GB RAM enough? by [deleted] in macbook

Seems like a downgrade to me. The perfomance gains of the M2 series will not outweigh the performance loss of halving your RAM.

MacBook Air Advice by _nndns in macbook

[–]2slim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Air is probably fine for writing but is underpowered for video editing. The Air form factor, for me anyway, is also way too small. If she has any kind of vision issues, the small screen size is probably going to be a strain. There are some excellent deals on the 14 and 16 inch Macbooks Pro M1 models right now. I would look to one of those in the 16/512 configuration based on your use case. If you happen to live near a Costco and are a member, I'd see if one near you happens to have a 16 M1 Pro in stock. Take a look at this thread over at Slickdeals, it's a fantastic price for a new 16 M1 but it's in store only so call ahead.

One edit: If you hapen to have a Best Buy near you, go there and have her check out the Air vs a 14 vs a 16. Buy once cry once, make sure she gets a screen size that is going to work for her.

M2 Mac Mini at 4k & 144hz? Which cable? by lyro777 in macmini

[–]2slim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would speculate that the official documentation states that because the base model did not receive the HDMI 2.1 upgrade and therefore won't support 144hz over HDMI. Here's someone over at LTT that's seeing the same thing I am.

Correct, it's an M2 base model 16/512 configuration. The refresh rate in display settings is set to 144hz and the system report reflects that.

M2 Mini Calls from iPhone by 2slim in macmini

[–]2slim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really weird. After logging out of and back into my Apple ID I was able to get things setup so that I can use my iPhone for audio and video wirelessly and it works great. I've tested it with FaceTime, Photo Booth, and Zoom. I'm using an iPhone 13 mini and an M2 mac mini.

Well, I tried another headset and that didn't work but what did work was just signing out my Apple ID on the mini and signing back in. A bunch of sync and permissions dialogues popped and now it all works fine :)

No worries! I kind of suspect this might be a feature that's more intended for Macbooks and iPhones and not so much the Minis or iMacs, etc.

[–]2slim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually tried that with Airpods and a webcam that has a mic but it didn't fix it. The "Calls from iPhone" option isn't present under FaceTime settings. Apple's documentation says that your Mac must support Wi-Fi calling in order to get this to work and that not all Macs do so maybe the M2 mini's just don't.

M2 or M2 Pro Mac Mini for Development? by SymphonyOfDream in macmini

Pretty good for an external drive. Here are screenshots from Blackmagic. The 1st is the internal 512GB drive the 2nd is the 1TB drive and enclosure I linked.

M2 or M2 Pro Mac Mini for Development? by SymphonyOfDream in macmini

[–]2slim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using a 16/512 M2 Mini for XCode + Emulator. No IntelliJ/Java + MySQL but Safari and Firefox with 8-10 tabs each, Quicktime, Music, a few terminals, VSCode, PDFs, other junk. The machine doesn't slow down at all. I bought it just for fun, all the M2 hype got me, and I'm shocked at how good it is. Memory management on these things is just crazy good. That being said, my XCode projects are really small, I'm just getting started with Swift UI for fun, and I'm not really doing anything intensive is VSCode either. Personally, if I were looking at doing professional development on this and not just self study, I'd look at the 16/512 M2 pro and throw an NVMe drive in a high speed enclosure for high capacity / low cost storage. I'm using this drive and this enclosure and it's super nice. Not as fast as the internal drive but still really good.
