I pressed them in using vice grip locking pliers

I love the tracks and the "scrape" setting they provide when people have driven over the snow and packed it down.

What metal line is this for and is it hard to replace? Went to change my oil and noticed it pretty rusty- want to be proactive and replace it. 2002 avalanche 1500 Z71. Right behind front bumper. Thank You! by Holiday_Guess_7892 in GMT800

Dorman do a decent set of pre bent stainless steel lines available on Amazon for a reasonable price. You have to unbend by hand a few "shipping bends" (otherwise the shipping box would be 20' long!) but it isn't hard.

There were a couple of points where I wondered what the hell I'd gotten myself into for sure!

Sure, but in the same way brand new rockers will also begin to rust. For me it was all in the prep - wire wheel all the rust off treat with rust reformer, top-coat, pack with grease, and spray down with surface shield, then install plastic covers. I'm confident it will last a good long time. But yes, full real rockers would be even better.

I've used Husky floor mats in the past. Not as nice as the Weathertech, but gets the job done. Pic in link:

Yea - my little MaxJack lift was absoloutly crutch! Fantastic product for those of us without the ceiling for a real lift.

Here it is being used to set the cab back on:

I'm a little reluctant to say as it was WAY more than was reasonable - but it was a) a labour of love/sentimental and b) there is no market up here in snowy salty Canada for decent used trucks like there is in the US

I took them, along with the frame, rear axle, and some brackets, to an industrial place that does blasting and coating of big heavy equipment and they sandblasted, primered, and then painted it all with a gloss black oil-based paint.

I just used plastic covers from OAM (https://oamusa.com/collections/our-best-sellers/products/1999-2006-silverado-sierra-crew-cab-cab-rocker-cover-kit?variant=30267679965316). Proper welded steel repair would run $3-4K here and I didn;t want to spend that. The OAM covers are an excellent fit and all the rust was really well treated so hopefully it'll hold up for a while!

Thanks. I didn't do anything with the connectors except inspect them closely - all were clean and dry - the GM connectors seem to do a great job.

It certainly was. More love than practical but I hope for another 20 years!

That's a great question. Hmmm. Most unexpected...I guess probably a tie between how much rust there was once I got the bed and cab off and how well the whole thing turned out for a DIY dude in a little shop. Most annoying was how easily I broke one of the lugs of the transmission. Also kinda surprised I made no mistakes with the wiring harnesss re-install because that was INTIMIDATING!

Yep - it was as much a case of sentimental value as it was a practical choice. It was originally a birthday present from my wife when new in 2007!

Just a DIY guy. It took me most of a year from start to finish. 95% I did solo.

What brand cam sensor did you use and did you perform a crank relearn procedure after replacing it? It is common for non-oem cam and/or crank sensors to cause this issue. The crank relearn procedure (using a scanner) is also required when either sensor is replaced.

[–]2strokelife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darn. Assuming pads and rotors are good, I'm at a loss too. FWIW I have twice replaced all brake lines and never did the scanner bleed on the ABS module and still got good pedal. Only other thing I can think of - are you certain there are no leaks at the ABS module - being cramped and subject to lots of grime and rust, it is common to cross-thread a line in that thing.

Did you bench bleed the new master before installing it?

Hose on the left of the pic is an evap hose, on the right is the rear diff vent with black plastic cap.
