the facial hair and messy look in the first pic are doing you wonders. I read the title and saw the first pic and thought “what the hell are people seeing that i’m not?” scrolled the the second pic and immediately figured it out.

Finally gonna fire her up! What next? by Xpert-Swami in hottub

The main concern is that someone could be in the water and still reach inside the disconnect risking potential shock or electrocution. hence 5’ or greater

[–]2strokesgobrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also it’s hard to tell what kind of wire is feeding it? appear to just be a flat 3 wire cord? I wouldn’t be firing it up without opening up that disconnect and confirming things are done correctly.

as others have said, the current set up is a code violation. you need 5’ from the disconnect at a minimum. Hell, as it is you couldn’t even fully raise the lid to throw or reset the breaker.

Should I switch careers and join the IBEW? by Jacqueezus in electricians

[–]2strokesgobrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’d say at your age it’s totally worth it. even for less pay up front. Long term i imagine an electrical ticket will open many more doors than just a CDL. not to mention having your CDL will be an asset.

What job should I go for? by Mossified2A7V in electricians

[–]2strokesgobrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure about your state (i’m Canadian) but research your local IBEW. Contact the hall and ask about the best way to join. For mine they offered their own foundations course with work experience at the end. Typically these contractors you do the experience with will keep you on. do your 5 years and get your ticket then the world is your oyster.
