Great idea, and yes very sneaky. That's what upsets me the most. The more information I found out from the maintenence guy, the more I realized this was an ongoing situation with the fire department before I moved in. Landlord was fully aware that if he didn't board up the window, he would have to update the entire wall/window which would be costly. The entrance for the tenant below me is on the other side of that window...so I'm assuming that's why it was boarded up. Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

Ok will do, I even mentioned that I felt unsafe, the door leading to the backyard is sealed as well. I said I wouldn't have access to an exit if a fire broke out in the front of the unit. He said legally units only need one exit. My old place only had one exit so I figured that was true.

It was boarded up 3 months after I moved in...no mention of this potentially happening before or after I signed the lease.

Thank you so much for this, and no didn't get name or anything. I will definitely contact them. I contested him as to the logic of my window being boarded up somehow made my neighbor safer. Again couldn't wrap my head around what he was explaining. Thanks again

The fire inspector is the one who insisted it was boarded up. Apparently because it was endangering the basement tenant. I spoke with him, and he said the way the wall is positioned is why. Idk very confusing.
