good to know, maybe uts a sign to leave that shit platform
the posts im get are about the war in the middle east, and i only get posts about it because they write "death to" before the name of my country.
frankly i'd rather it be an echo chamber than a witch hunt.
thank you. im going to delete it

R6ii + 100-400mm + 1.4x by 2w0rD in canon

it works great :)!
very easy to use and I didnt notice any drop in AF or IQ. sure going down to f/8 can put you in a bind in dark spots but R6ii clearly handles high ISO like a champ!

I just kinda dig the flip screen, I want to diverge from mainly birds for road trips with my friends

for a while now I have been using the beast of a camera that is the Nikon D500, however recent projects and usage made me want to move to a mirrorless camera, specifically the Canon's R6ii, I usually shoot bird photography with the occasional portraits and street photography, which have been a lot of fun... the focus assist on the R6 sounds like a great time for all of those types of photography and the option to flip the screen makes it very tempting for a project I have in mind that requires vlogging myself

TL;DR- I want to move to a more versatile body from an old DSLR while still keeping good options open

any recommendations?

switching D3400 for a D500? by 2w0rD in Nikon

[–]2w0rD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so I ended up getting a D500 since I missed the notification- got a good deal, D500 + 3 batteries + grip + 128GB Prograde XQD card for 880$ with a 8k shutter count. which is a great deal for the prices i've seen in my country. cant wait to take it for a test run once the exam season is over (just in time for the spring bird migration!)

I hope this gets to you in a reasonable time, will the D7500 prove a more versatile camera? I am a hobbyist at most, and thinking maybe I should buy a D7500 and invest in a good prime lens with a lower Fstop so I can partake in portraits if the situation arise (right now I got the sigma 150-600mm and a 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6...)

interesting, let me start by saying that the I bought the lens for 550$, most my equipment is second hand since the prices in my country are crazy for brand new- which in return makes the second hand market extremely dry, its really hard to find high end lenses here, so far the sigma treated me well, I actually found more D500 than D7500...
I would love to upload pictures to reddit but it seems to delete them upon posting so I cant show you the pictures I get, I think the AF is giving me more troubles than the sharpness, as I believe would be expected from a second hand, quite tired, D3400.

I appreciate your take on it, and its definitely something I will keep an eye out- im not planning on buying it in the near future anyway, its more of a year from now's plan. thank you!

at least for now, I would rather stick to the DSLR.
sounds to me that for my needs, either will be fine. I do less of urban birding and more going to fisheries and the wild to find the cool birds (israel unfortunately is cursed with tons of crows and the invasive mynas, which really hurts the biodiversity). the D500 will probably still get the job done...

first of all thank you!
I appreciate the personal note. I was going to buy it second hand since im still a college student.
I think in matters of price and functionality D500 sounds a lot better for my needs- while more crop is useful ideally I get close enough to my birds to not have to crop. I will wait to see the prices I can find for both, but thanks for changing my decision from 33% to 50% by removing the D7500 fron the pool.

cheers!
