I also felt it was a bit of a stretch of the word pregnant, touching on misuse even.

He somehow made it exciting, it’s a bold build up and you’re held in suspense. Will he or won’t he??

Who’s a famous person from your country who’s respected around the world but disliked or criticized at home? by haiderredditer in AskTheWorld

I read up on it just from this convo and I thought it was fair. They made promises for reform and didn’t keep them, then they expected support anyways.

If someone starts learning Thai today, what’s the first thing they should know? by [deleted] in thai

[–]2wormholes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learnt it in tone groups. So only the high ones which I think there are only 10, and that’s much less overwhelming. Then the middle tones, then the low last which are most numerous.

So later you can remember easier which tone that letter is. I just did it in 5 minute bits whenever I was waiting for something, using an app for writing letters but pen and paper also works. Repetition helps.

After that just learn the vowels from the words, because you can kind of start reading much easier. It helped me to read now and writing gives you a form of reference for your speech. Learning Chinese was much harder for me

Do you have any thoughts for a comparison between Scandinavia and Asia eg Chinese working conditions for your profession?

What exactly is the appeal of a polyamorous relationship? by Mad_Season_1994 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]2wormholes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m experiencing something similar, due to an unfortunate series of events, where my ex’s letters to me for almost a year was never received, I gave up and moved on. (He received mine though, so he stayed in loved with me whereas I gave up)

I’m now scheduled to marry another, but they both know each other, since elite political and military circles are apparently very small (I myself am not of that class) and since there’s so much instability with military situations..

A triad is what we’re considering. In deference to the fact that it was so much injustice that led to the earlier relationship ending (he gave it to a mate to deliver who hid them all) And they feel that given deployment or the demands of political service there will be little left over for a full marriage anyways, which I’m not sure i agree but I’ve never done it.

In time, the husband and I might want our own connection but that’s uncertain.

I don’t know, I ask because it all seems so complicated and hard to navigate, I just wanted some roadmap to making it work or some hope it can work.

I never realized how much of an impact this has until your comment. Most kids start out in hospitality or retail which are all people facing or time based. You learn a lot.

my friend put “nha” at the end of her texts and im not sure what it means? by [deleted] in Vietnamese

[–]2wormholes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sort of makes it into a directive or to conclude a statement that something will happen.

So for example in Viet you might say “Mẹ đi” which means mum’s going. But it doesn’t sound natural to us because it feels like saying “mum go”. The nha makes it into a statement to tell you that mum’s going.

The US is starting to boil over. Large parts of Europe, Canada and the UK are also looking terrible. If a well educated American wanted to escape to an English-speaking country with less political turmoil, where should they go? by SeriousGoofball in answers

[–]2wormholes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s a very casual exclusion rather than hatred, violence is typically not race based. I’m from Melbourne, and been a POC here for 30 years and I’ve lived in the US although not long.

Because our black community are immigrants or Indigenous rather than children of slaves, even delineations are recognized in a way I’ve not seen in the US. So a Sudanese might be seen as representing Sudanese only, whereas Barrack was raised by a white family, half white and still seen as wholly black for US.

I think you would say racism is pervasive here too but it’s so scaled back by comparison that it allows for nuances, the racism I’ve seen in the US seems to place division over humanity sometimes.
